Deat at Rivers End
“April Smith was a very popular girl.” Fox said. “A lot of people knew her.” He sipped on his coffee. Fox sat the white mug down. “Anything else you wanna know or can I go?” He looked King in the eye. “You said you met her in summer school?” King said going over notes. “Yeah. So?” Fox rested back in his chair. He knew he was going to be here long. “How did you get in summer school?” “I did bad in school?” King nodded “Yes but why did you do bad in school?” King went through some other papers and pulled out Fox’s report card from his freshman year. “You were a pretty good student. So what happened with the down hill?” Fox eyed King and then curled is lip in disgust. “What are you? My consular? This has nothing to do with April.” “Fair enough.” King put his papers back in order.
“So you were romantically evolved with Miss. Smith?” King asked Dominic. “I was but so was half of the football team.” “But she kept coming back to you. Most of your classmates say you guys had an on and off thing going on.” Dominic shrugged. “We didn’t have anything together I dated her for a little awhile we didn’t work out so yeah. She never came back to me and I never came back to her.” “But on countless times you were at her house.” King said reading over a paper. “Her mother says April talked a lot about you.” Dominic raised an eyebrow. “Who told you I was at her house?” King swift through his notes. “Her mother.” Dominic shocks his head. “No. King you see when I showed up for April’s funeral her mother didn’t even know what I looked like. So I wasn’t at April’s house the mother would have remembered me.” King nodded “I see.” He flipped through some other paper work and came cross a folder; he opened it and left it up a picture. “So where was this taken?” The picture was of Dominic and April in her room. They were both smiling and looked very happy with each other.
“Mr. Salter if your going to lie to me you might as well camp out here because your not leaving till I get the truth out of you.” “Ok so yeah I’ve been to her house what’s that got to do with her death?” King put the photo back in the folder. “Were you there the day she died?” “No.” “Where were you?” Dominic rolled his shoulders. He was starting to get annoyed with the repeating of questions. “I told you this all ready.” “Refresh my memory.” King took a sip of his lukewarm coffee. “I was with my friend Brookelle we went to the mall and then saw a movie.”
“Ah Brookelle. We met again.” King said unwrapping his subway sandwich.
“Yeah and trust me when I say you disgust me.” Brookelle snarled.
King bit into the sandwich, mustered dripped out of the other end. Brookelle watched it hit the table. “No I take that back that disgust’s me you are repugnance.” King smiled and then chewed the food in his mouth.
He swallowed and put the sandwich down. “So you and April were friends?” He said warping his mouth. “Hardly. She was floozy.” “How so?” “Umm hello any one with eyes could see this, the way she was all over ever boy that smiled at her.” Brookelle said she crossed her arms around her chest. “It was gross.” King wrote down some notes. “So you wont to happy when she dated Dominic?” “No one was.” Brookelle’s eyes moved back in froth.
“Did you like Dominic?” Her eyes ran to Kings. “No.” “So your telling me you never want to get in bed with him?” Brookelle’s face grew in disgust. “If you think I killed April in a jealous rage your drummer then I thought. Me and Dominic are just friends.” King pressed his lips together. “Tell me when you first met her.” “Ummm it was in summer school. Everyone had break for lunch. I was with Travis and Fox outside eating. She had walked up with Jessica.” Brookelle said shrugging off that thought. King wrote more down. “Did any fights between you and April happen?” Brookelle shock her head. “Nope.” “About the fight you had with her at school right before she died?” Brookelle look confused. “Classmates said you two had said a few words to each other.” King said reading over a paper. “It was really childish stuff not really an issue.” “Why don’t you just tell me what you said.” “I don’t remember but hey I am sure you all ready know what was said. I am sure one of my ‘classmates’ all ready told you the whole scoop.” King grinned. “You and Travis were a thing for a while? Yes?” Brookelle nodded “Sure I guess we were a thing for a while.” “Did April ever try to come between you two?” Brookelle put her elbows on the table and rested her china on her hands. “No.” “Hmm.” King raised an eyebrow. “But you fought with her about Travis.” “Again if you think I killed a girl who commutated suicide..” “No I think she was murdered.” Brookelle slammed her hands down. “I didn’t do it.” King smirked. “Why are you and your friends all ways missing school?” “We hate it there.” “Why?” “Cause it’s a shitty school.” “Why did you drag April along with you?” Brookelle stared him down trying to figure him. “I didn’t” “Right Jessica and Dominic did. Did you ever try and stop with from bring her?” “Sometimes. Other times I didn’t care.” “Brookelle can I ask you something?” “Did you really just ask me that?” Brookelle was fuming with anger she didn’t like being in a room with this guy and she wonted out as fast as she could. “Why do you and friends think they can lie to me?” Brookelle didn’t say a word for a long time. She licked her lips and pressed them hard against each other. She leaned in King did the same. They were inches apart from each other. Brookelle could feel his breath on her lips. “Because King we know your really trying to know more about us then you are about April’s death.”
Death at Rivers End
The knock at the door awoke Brookelle from her sleep. She groaned and turned over on her right side. It was Sunday and anyone who knew her, knew that she slept all day on Sundays. She even turned off her cell phone so that she couldn’t be bothered. The second knock echoed in her ears. She kicked wildly in her bed. What was so important that I have to be woken on a Sunday? She wondered. She threw her sheets off of her and headed to the door. Brookelle answered the knocker in blue Victoria Secret sweat pants and a white tank top, her brown hair wild in curls. When Brookelle opened the door she was a bit shocked to see who was knocking. Jessica stood in front of her in a light yellow called skirt with a white V-neck shirt. Travis stood but against the wall, dressed in a washed up pair of skinny jeans and a black shirt. “Have you guys lost your minds?” Brookelle asked angrily. Jessica gave her a puzzled look. “Its Sunday Cherry.” Jessica nodded. “I know Brookelle and I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t important.” Jessica said with worry in her voices. Brookelle left her door open as she walked away. Jessica and Travis walked in. Travis shut the door be hide him. “Someone better be dieing.” Brookelle said heading back to her comfy warm bed. “He questioned us B.” Travis whispered. Jessica set on the couch that was in front of the bed. Before Brookelle dived back in to her bed she let Travis’s words sink in to her. “Who?” She watched Travis join Jessica on the couch. “King, He picked me and Travis up yesterday and asked questions about April.” Jessica said. Her hands were shaking. She pulled at the hem of her skirt to get her hands to stop shaking. Brookelle dropped down on the edge of her bed. She knew Sunday sleeping was no longer on her to do list.
“What she ask?” She asked Jessica. “Just questions about her, like how I knew here and if we were friends.” “B he was really pushy on the questions and half the time it felt like he knew we were bull shitting him.” Travis added. Brookelle nodded. She licked her lips. “When will he be coming for me and the others?” Jessica shrugged “I don’t know.” The knock at the door pulled everyone out of his or her thoughts. Travis stood up fast. Brookelle just looked out to where the front door was. “It’s the others.” Jessica said in a hush tone. “I’ll let them in.” Travis walked out the bedroom. The girls looked down at the floor in silence. Moments later Fox and Dominic joined them in Brookelle’s room. Dominic sat down next to Jessica. He had on a gray V-neck shirt on which made his muscles stand out. “Are you ok?” He asked her. She nodded but didn’t look up. Fox leaned up against the wall. He crossed his arms. His plaid green shirt made his red hair seem brighter. “What do we do?” He asked just as Travis was coming back into the room. Dominic looked up him and then tossed his gaze at Brookelle then back at Jessica. “We let B sleep.” Dominic said. “Huh?” Brookelle looked up at Dominic. She was stunned at his response. They met gazes. “But this is..” “Not important.” Dominic said cutting Brookelle off. “We can talk about this later. Even Travis and Jessica need sleep.” Dominic told the group. “Right.” Fox said. “I’ll be in your living room.” Fox left the room with out hearing Brookelle’s or anyone’s response. “Umm right. The guest room is free.” Brookelle said. “The sheets were just cleaned. My parents are way on a business trip.” “We know.” Travis said. It was rare for Brookelle’s parents to be home. They were more of strangers to Brookelle then parents. “I take the guest room.” Jessica spoke taking her eyes off the ground. When she got up and left Dominic followed her. If you didn’t know them or the group you would have thought that the two of them were together. “I’ll sleep on here.” Travis dropped on the couch taking his shoes off. Brookelle shock her head. “Travis your gay. Come sleep in my bed with me.” Brookelle told Travis as she was getting back under her covers. Travis took his shirt off and slipped in to the bed with Brookelle. “You will charge up faster if we are together.” Brookelle reached from Travis’s hand and intertwined her fingers with his. He pulled her in to him. Their bodies gave off a soft glow as they fell asleep. If someone were to walk in on them they would see that their skin glowed.
King lit his cigarette. “It’s ok if I smoke right?” He asked the girl in front of him. She nodded her head. “Good.” He smiled the choked grin. He pushed a record on the recorder. “Now lets get started.” He said blowing smoke out. “Your name?” He asked the female. “Oh Beth Green.” She spoke in the mic of the recorder. Beth Green was very popular at her school and knows all most everything about anyone. “So tell me about April Smith?”
The Game Part 3
“He’s never done that to me before.” Luke hushed down and with watery eyes looked at Ian. “I am sorry honey I should have told you. Luke got hurt playing his back is all scraped up” Ian’s mom said taking Luke out in to the living room. She placed Luke down on the ground and turned on the TV. Cartons played and Luke grew happy again. Ian looked at Luke, who turned and looked at him. “Watch?” Luke said hitting the ground with his hand ordering Ian to come sit next to him.
Ian grinned and sat next to his brother. He looked down at him. Luke was small for his age and thin to. Could pass for a 5 year old. Luke Daniels had sandy blonde hair and pale green eyes. “Hey buddy.” Ian said to Luke. It took a minute for Luke to take his eyes of the screen. Luke looked up at Ian. “Yeah?” He asked giving Ian a toothy grin. “Can I see your back?” Ian asked.
It didn’t fit right with him. When he picked Luke up to huge him, Luke didn’t scream. When his mother picked Luke up a minute ago he didn’t scream or cry. “Huh?” Luke said. His eyes had gone back to the TV. “When you fall.” Ian said. He tossed his eyes back to the TV. Scooby-Doo was more important to Luke then Ian. “Ohhhhh.” Luke said eyes lighting up. “My Beatle scar.” Luke jumped up and turned around his back facing Ian. “Um yeah.” Ian said. He watched Luke lift up his shirt. His back had long scars running down his back. Ian wonder how his little brother got such bad scars. “How this happen?” He asked Luke. Ian ran his hands down his skin feeling the scars. “Does it hurt?” Ian asked. Luke shock his head. “How did you get them?” He reasked Luke. Luke put his shirt down and sat back down. Looking Ian in the eyes. “He wanted to eat me.” Luke said softly. Ian studded Luke. He wasn’t lying. Ian could tell when Luke lied to him. His bottom lip shakes and there was no shaking in his lip. “Who?” Ian asked him. To be honest this didn’t shock Ian, after all that happened to him Ian could believe just about anything. “Luke you better not be telling stories again.” Ian moved his head so that Luke’s body was no longer in the way of his view. Ian’s dad had walked though the door covered in oil grease. Ian’s dad was built like an 80’s hard bod cover for a magazine. Luke spun around. “No sir.” Luke spoke.
“Dad, have you seen these?” Ian said getting to his feet. You could tell that Ian got his tallness from his mother. His father was way taller then him which meant Luke had the tall gain in him. “I have.” He said going to the kitchen to put his lunch box away. “And?” Ian asked following him. “And Ian he fell playing, drop it.” He told Ian. His father turned and faced him looking down on him eye to eye. Ian shock his head. “Alright.” Ian said going back to the living room. Luke was all ready back in front of the TV. Ian was one not to argue with his dad, he knew better. Ian watched Luke as he watched TV. He wanted to know who the “Monster” was and Ian had a bad feeling about it.
Lalaine waved to Gwen as she drove away. Lalaine stood in her drive way hands and arms covered with hanging bags. She walked up to her door and tried to open it with out getting her hanging bags in the way. The handle turn an inch then stopped, the door didn’t open. “Locked?” Lalaine said out loud. Her parents won’t home yet which didn’t surprise her. They both worked and that’s all they did. Michelle had locked the door. She thought. “Weird.” She put down a few bags and fished around in her bag for her keys. Lalaine giggled to her self. The one day she brought her keys with her is the one day her sister locks the door on her. She opened the door but didn’t even brother locking it. She started making her way up stairs. “Who’s there?” Lalaine heard Mickey calling down to her. Lalaine was about to speak but Mickey bet her to it. “Alien?” Lalaine curled her upper lip. “Come here please.” Mickey cried. Lalaine counted walking up the stairs to her room and dropped off her begs. “Please?” Mickey asked. To Lalaine it sounded like she was begging. She smiled a little. Her sister begging was something she never dose so it made Lalaine a little happy inside. She found Mickey covered in hair dye in Mickey’s bathroom. “What are you doing?” Lalaine asked sniffing the air. “Ohh.” She cried covering her nose. The smell of the hair dye over came her nose. She made her way over to Mickey’s bathroom window and opened, letting new air flow in and the harsh smell flow out. “I am finger painting.” Mickey rolled her eyes. “What does it look like I am doing, I am dying my hair.” Mickey said. Lalaine looked at the box on her sisters bathroom counter. It was a box of hair dye. The girl on the box had black hair afire white skin and brown eyes. “Why are you dying your hair black?” Lalaine asked setting the box back down. “Cause I don’t want to be mistaken for you.” Mickey said grabbing gloves and handing them to her sister. “Just please?” Lalaine took the gloves and nodded to her sister. Lalaine helped Mickey making sure all the dye was in her hair and not on her skin. When Lalaine moved Mickey’s hair she noticed her ears were all pierced up. “When did you do this?” Lalaine asked studying her ear. “A few months ago. Its no big deal Alien its not like I didn’t know about your bellybutton ring.” Lalaine stepped back a few, she had gotten her bellybutton done after Mickey left. “You felt it?” She asked Mickey. “Yeah.” Mickey said removing her gloves. “I think we got it all.” Mickey turned her head in her bathroom mirror check out there work. “Thanks.” Lalaine nodded and went to turn around to leave when the smell of cigarette smoke filled her nose. She quickly turned around. “Your smoking that too?!” She cried. She saw Mickey by her window lighting a cigarette. Lalaine’s eyes quickly darted around the bathroom, she spotted the bong setting in her sisters tube. “Michelle what the hell?” Mickey blow the smoke out the window, Making sure the keep the cigarette away from her hair. “What now Alien? What did I do now?” Lalaine felt anger grow in side her when she heard Mickey calling her Alien. “God its bad enough all my friends talk bad about you and that our parents hate you, and to top it all off your doing drugs!” Lalaine found her self shouting. Mickey’s face was red hot now and if she wants tan you could tell. “I don’t question your right to do whatever it is you do, Like sleep with my best friend.” Mickey said flicking the cigarette out the window. “I was drunk.” Lalaine said. “My point, your whoreing..” Mickey’s senate was cut short. “And your any better? You’re the reason why this family isn’t a family anymore. All you ever had to do was be good. But you couldn’t, could you? No poor little Michelle was jealous that her sister was better then her getting all the action around here, you disgust me.” Lalaine spit out at her. You could see the venom spraying out with every word. Mickey’s throat grow tight and she could feel her pits getting sweaty. “You have no right Lalaine to even talk like that to me.” “I do. I have ever right.” Then Lalaine said something she wish she could take back. “I wish you had stayed dead.” She saw Mickey fleche in pain. “Get out of my room.” Was all Mickey said. Before Lalaine was half way out the door Mickey pushed her out and slammed the door. Slamming her fist on the door Mickey felt a tear run down her face. For the first time in forever Mickey cried. She knew her sister and her were at war with each other. And she didn’t want that and what she hated even more was the guy who dragged her in to this thing that had changed her forever. If it was the last thing Mickey would ever do in her life she was going to find that boy and make him pay for ever ounce of pain she had ever felt in her life. The anger that was building up her in was slowly changing Mickey even more. The war lord had said that the more anger one was in them, the better the fighter. So if losing everyone in your life caused the anger that lead to this great fighter. Mickey would say ‘no thanks, I like the people in my life.’ But it was to late, she couldn’t take it back the only thing to do was move on. Turn that pain and anger into the ‘great fighter’. She was going to win this game and get her life back before it killed her and everyone she loved.
Michael opened his front door to find again his home empty. He had walked home after telling Mickey that it was ok she didn’t need to drive him home. A walk set his mind free, after all he had a lot to take in now. But he didn’t feel different. Mickey said he would, she said you can start to feel your insides changes. The more anger you have the stronger your power is. But what power? Michael wonder what kind of power he would have and how strong he would get. He set his keys down on the kitchen counter and went for the refrigerator, grabbing a coke. He thought about calling his mom and to check in but he knew she wouldn’t care. All she would say was that’s nice dear don’t forget to eat something. And his dad was worse on his good days he would remember that Michael was his son. Michael set down on the couch and turned on the TV finishing his coke and tossed it at a family picture that hung on the wall next to the flat screen TV. The left over coke from the can splashed on to the picture. Brown liquid ran down his mothers smiling face. Michael flipped threw the channels. “Gay.” He said aloud. As he went throw it. When it hit the news he stopped. Something about peoples misery mad Michael feel less unhappy about his. “In other news, A boat with over 50 people got hit by a tattle wave. More news at 11.” The short blonde women said smiling in to the camera. Michael changed the channel. Finding nothing on he turned the TV off. He set there of a moment. Think he could call up Jimmy StBoss the big drug dealer in the town and try to get some weed off of him and drifted like how Mickey showed him. That would make time go by faster or he could just sleep until school started which wasn’t far off. A few more days now and he would be back in hell. But at least this time Mickey would be with him. The two of them back in action ,the misshapes they will have this year put a smile on his face. The front do flung open and slammed shut. The sound snapped Michael out of his train of thought. His mother zipped to the kitchen setting her bag and car keys on the counter. Grabbing a coke and started up for her room. Michael sat there and watched her. She didn’t even see him. He could be drugs or having sex and his mother won’t have noticed. He got up and followed her. Being very quite. Moving as she did. She rushed in to her room and turned on the light. Taking another swing of the coke then setting on the dresser. She buzzed over to her bathroom and turned on the shower. Michael rested his back on the door frame over the bedroom door. When Michaels mother saw him she jump back and gasped grabbing her chest. “Oh dear Michael you scared me.” She said breathing a little hard. He raised an eye brow. “Kind of dramatic don’t you think mom?” He said. She rolled her eyes. She ran her fingers threw of full thick blonde hair. “What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be at school?” She asked. Michael shock his head. “Mom its Saturday and school doesn’t start for another week or so.” “Hmmm.” Was all she said. “Ok dear, well I am going out to a meeting with Derek from work. And your father is working late on a case. So.” She said turning around facing Michael. She grabbing his face with her soft hands. “Its just you tonight.” She turned going for her bathroom and shutting the door. Michael stood there. What she really just said was his dad was working late and his mother was going out to have an afire with a guy from work. He walked out and entered his room. Derek. That name rand bells in Michael’s head. Derek Fills was his name. Thee only Derek that his mother worked with. The name clicked when Michael added it together with the man Mickey’s mom had an afire with. When Mickey left Michael went out of his way to find out way. Derek Fills was his answer. Shortly after Mickey left Derek stopped seeing her mom and moved on to Michaels. He had thought about cornering him a few times and treating him to stop sleeping with his mom. One night he was going to do just that. He had a knife in his pocket. He wasn’t planning on using it. He was on his way out the door when Ian showed up. First time he had ever seen Ian cry. Ian told him off Mickey’s accident. He didn’t know where Ian went after he left his house. But he knew from that moment that Ian loved Mickey. Like truly loved her. The pain he felt that night shoot throw Michael. He remembers racing over to her house. He didn’t even jump his car. He just took off. He never knew he could run that fast or that long. When he got there he saw Lalaine wrapped up in Mickey’s sheets. A mess. That moment he saw Mickey and not Lalaine. And when she had asked him to show her what it was like to wash all the pain away. Something in knew that it was Mickey talking to him that. He tried to think other wise. He tried seeing Lalaine but only saw Mickey. He knew that was the only reason why it was so easy to kiss her to make love to her. He knew he would never be with Mickey for Ian had her. Had her forever. He could image it was just him and Mickey under thee sheets and not him and Lalaine. And he had. That whole time he thought it was Mickey he had with him. He forgot the world and imaged he was with Mickey making love to her. When it was all said and done. Lalaine had went to sleep and Michael knew he had to leave before anyone saw him saw them. Lalaine had never spook a word about it and he didn’t either. He didn’t mind any off that. They would both keep there mouths shout and Michael would forever keep it in his mind that he had Mickey first before Ian ever got to her. Michael heard the shower turn off. He fall on his bed. “That was quick.” He mumbled. He thought that rest was best for him. He hadn’t really got any since yesterday afternoon. He felt his eyes drop his body shut down. He didn’t even hear his mother say good bye. Or the fact that he left his door wide open. His messy room exposed to the rest of the house. A fact he never liked.
The pain Michael felt didn’t come till much later in the night. When his parents were fast asleep in there bed. Not even touching each other just sleeping. When the whole town would be sleeping. A time later in the night when no one could have heard the storm roll in and out.
Michael set up in his bed. Gasping for air. Pain was growing his chest. He grabbed it, holding on to his shirt. His heart felt like it would burst out of his chest. He want to scream but couldn’t. The pain grew more. Michael felt like he was going to die. He heard the storm come in. Loud thunder hit around his house. The rain sounded like huge ice chucks hitting his house. And as mush as he didn’t want to go out side. Something in him told him he should, that as soon as he got out there the pain would stop. He ran out side in his front yard. Michael didn’t even notice that he knocked stuff down as he was coming out. He dropped to his knees in the middle of his front yard. Letting the rain sock him. He ripped his shirt off screaming the pain was just to much now. He looked up at the sky and saw a light blot coming right at him. Michaels eyes grew big he want to move but his body was glued to the grown. The light blot shout throw his mouth all the way down to his body. He could feel it enter him and leave him moving to the grown. Michael elapsed blacking out.
Mickey’s eyes opened. She sat up in bed her body covered in a cold sweet. Her black hair stuck to her face, and Ian’s shirt clung to her body. Mickey heard the storm leave. She lifted up her shirt and saw the glow from on her chest. Mickey felt Michael inside her now. She knew now he was fully in the game and fully apart of her now. She knew he was on her team. She felt his power in him, in her. The glow went out and she feel back asleep. The storms rolling thunder echoing in her ears.
Michael awoke with the sun beaming in his eyes. Dirt and mud caked on to his face and clothes. He could taste blood in his mouth. “Your so died mister.” He heard his mother say. He looked up at her, he could tell he was laying on the ground. “What… what happened?” He said. Michael couldn’t recall what happen last night. He just knew he felt a huge amount of pain. “Your father is so pissed at you. Almost called the cops on you.” She told him. Michael could tell she wasn’t mad just trying to put a show for the neighbors. Michael got on his feet and tried to brush off the dirt. “I am sorry?” He said. “Save it Michael just get inside.” She said hitting his shoulder. “God what I am I going to do with you?” She said looking around, making sure people were still watching. Only a few were. No one really cared for Michael Shaw and his family. They had seen it all before, every mishap with the Shaw’s. Michael walked in to his house to see glass all over the floor. “Gezz what happened?” He asked his mother. Mrs. Shaw shut the door and fixed her hair and suit before addressing Michael. “Oh this? This was you.” She told him. She walked around the glass and into the kitchen. Michael robbed his head. He couldn’t remember any of this to save his life. “What happened?” He asked again. His mother returned with her purse and a coke. “You tell me?” She paused looking at Michael. “But you better clean this up before you father comes home tonight.” Mrs. Shaw started out the door but midway turn and stopped. “Michael I don’t know what has gotten into you lately but don’t bring it home.” She told her son. Michael just kept his eyes on the broken glass. He heard the door shut and his mothers car start up and leave his drive way. “Thanks for asking if I am all right.” He whispered. He made his way past the broken glass and up to his bathroom. He looked at him self in the mirror. His face covered in dirt and mud. His mouth was filled with dried blood. Michael started up the shower and removed his shirt. When he dropped his arms down he felt his ribs ache. He moved back to the mirror. The had a bruise on them, Michael didn’t want to know where else he might have been bruised at. It took him an hour to wash all the mud and dirt off of him. Two brushing of the teeth later and the blood was gone to. But the bruise which here all over his body were still there and so was the pain. After cleaning up the glass and the broken vas that he also knocked over Michael sat down on his bed. He wanted to call Mickey he knew she would know what happened to him. But the pain was becoming to much. He reached for his phone and dialed a number he knew off the top of his head, a number he didn’t need to have in his phone. “Hey Jimmy. You up?”
Chapter 5
Mickey inhaled another drag from her cigarette before putting it out on her window seat and throwing the bud out the window. She watched Lalaine pull out of the drive away. Mickey could smell the crisp morning air on the tip of her nose. Her mother knocked on her door. Mickey spun around. “Yes?” Mickey snarled at her mother. “Well I have to be at work in 30, so if we are going to do this we need to go now.” Her mother said looking at her watch. Mickey looked at Ian, who was still sleeping in her bed. “Do what?” Mickey said looking at her mother. “I need to take you to school. Try and get you back in?” Her mother said. “Look Mickey I don’t have time for this.” “Then go. I don’t need you.” Mickey snapped. She rushed over to her door and slammed it shut. Her mother’s hair flow back from the gusted of wind that came from the door.
“Its not even seven and you two are all ready at it.” Ian said in his sleepy voice. Mickey shock her head. “I don’t know why she even tries.” “Just five more minutes.” Ian groaned. Mickey looked at him. He flipped over on his side. “I cant do drama in the morning.” He said. Mickey giggled. She picked up a pillow that had fallen on the floor in the middle of the night and chucked it at Ian’s body. He grabbed it and started cuddling with it. Mickey made her way to her bathroom and spent then next 10 minutes on her make up and hair. Applying just the right amount of black eye liner and hair spry. She walked out to see Ian tossing clothes around. “My room doesn’t need your help to make it messy.” She told Ian. “If your room wasn’t so messy I could find my clothes.” He tossed back at her. “Well now.” Mickey said. She looked on the floor to find socks. She didn’t care if the matched or not she just need socks. “Have you heard from Michael lately?” Mickey said lacing up her boots. “Nope.” Ian said sniffing a black shirt. He tossed it on after he knew it was clean. “He hasn’t called me or returned my text in like a week.” Mickey said looking at her outfit in the mirror. Black and gray striped long sleeved shirt and a jean skirt with fist nets and her famous black doc marten boots. Perfect. “You wanna go by his house before school?” Ian asked her as he stood be hide her. She looked at the both of them. She thought they were perfect together. Ian’s black shirt made his muscle arms stand out more. “No, I’ve got a date with Mr. Woodstock.” Mickey said grabbing her tope bag. “Sweet.” Ian said following her out her bedroom door. Running his hands threw his hair before stepping out side. “Here you drive.” Mickey said tossing him the keys. Ian started up the Jeep as Mickey lit her cigarette. In order for Mickey to come back to school she had to have a meeting with the schools principle, and he had to say weather or not she has changed and her behavior was good enough to come back. Which in Mickey’s mind her behavior was worse then before. But the principle was a stoner or well that’s what his students think of him. He was a hippie. Always dressed in jeans and wanted everyone to dress as comfortable as they wanted. But most teachers still wear suites and dressy clothes. It was just funny to know his last name was Woodstock. Ian pulled in to Mean Creak High school’s parking lot. Mickey jumped out and looked around. She took her last drag and tossed the bud. “I hate this school.” She said. Ian looped his arm throw his book bag strip. “Me too.” “Lucky for you its your last year here.” Ian was a senior. He grinned. “I am sorry.” He said kissing her on the top of her head. Mickey watched as teens climbed out of there cars and join their friends. Some happy to be back in school and away from their summer jobs others dragged their feet and didn’t look very happy. Mickey didn’t see Michael’s car in the parking lot. She was getting worried. “Did you get your classes?” Mickey asked. She intertwined her fingers with Ian’s as they made their way up to the school doors. “Yeah in the mail. Luke thought got jealous.” Ian told her. Mickey frowned to herself. She hadn’t seen Luke since she been back. “I’ve got to make it a point to see him.” She said. “Yeah.. But he’s been acting weird lately.” Ian said opening the door for Mickey and him. “How so?” Mickey asked. She had pulled Ian and her to the side by tall gray lockers. “Well..” Ian started when he was cut off by the bell. “Ahh. I’ve got make homeroom but I’ll see you at lunch.” Ian said kissing Mickey. Mickey just stood there watching Ian dispread in to the crowd. When Mickey was with Ian she didn’t notice the stares or the whisperings but now that she was alone she noticed it all. She tossed her eyes down at the ground. “And it starts.” She whispered to herself. She moved slowly and watched the halls clear. Mickey open the office doors. It all most left like home. She had been in those office so many times. The office secretary looked up from her morning paper work. She was round pale and plum. Red frizzy hair with tiny eyes and thin lips that she covered in purple lip stick. “Ah Miss Plumbarry.” Mickey greeted her. She thought that is was uncanny how her name fitted her image. “Miss Michelle Taylor.” “Mickey.” Mickey corrected her. “Yeah.” She snarled. Mickey took a seat. There were three other students in the office. Two males and a female. Mickey could tell that she knew one of the males and the female but didn’t bother placing them. The other male she had never seen before. The closest male to her stared at her for a while. Mickey could feel her fuse growing short. “Yes?’ She asked him. He was pale dark haired. “Are you Lalaine?” He asked. Mickey roller her eyes. “You just heard her say my name.” Mickey said tossing her head at Miss Plumbarry. “So your not?” He said. “No.” Mickey said facing away from him. Mr. Woodstock walked out. “Well Mickey its so good to see you.” Mickey began to get up. She wanted out of the office. “Hold on. Your next after Miss Kelly.” He said waving in the female. Mickey seat back down. “You’ve gotta be kidding me.” She said rolling her eyes. The homeroom bell rang and first period was beginning. Mickey hard the hall ways filling up with kids. Some opening there lockers even thoo they had no books. She heard laughing and a few teens running. She wounded what Ian was doing. Who he was walking with or making small talk. Even worse she wounded about Lalaine. “Man, you look a lot like her.” She hard the boy say to her. Mickey looked at him. He wasn’t joking he really did just say that. Mickey pressed her lips together. Everyone in this school knew Mickey was a twin and Lalaine was that other twin. “Yaw got me kid. I am her twin.” Mickey said harshly. He eyes got wide. “No away.” he spoke. “Oh you gotta be fu..” “Mickey.” She heard Mr. Woodstock call after her. She turned and saw the female leaving his office. “Thank god.” She said. “Wait what’s your name?” She heard the boy call after her. Mickey shut the door with out answering him. She sat down in front of Mr. Woodstock’s desk. Mickey heard the bell for first period start. “Now Mickey lets talk. I see your parents couldn’t make it.” He said leaning back in his chair. “Yeah sorry.” She spoke. “Its cool. I understand they work a lot now.” Mickey wounded where he got that from. “Yeah. So can I come back.” She asked. Mickey didn’t wanna be in there long. “Yes.” He told her. “Really? This isn’t a joke?” “No. Given what you’ve been through I think you should have a second chance.” He felt bad for her. Half of the adults in the town did. ’Cool.” She said coolly. Mr. Woodstock picked a piece of paper off his desk and handed it to her. “Your classes for this year. From what hear at Saint Luis your pretty smart.” He said. Mickey looked over the list. “Wait I cant have Mr. Trunk we didn’t get along last year we wont this year.” Mr. Woodstock took of a sip of his coffee. “Mickey I am sorry but last year you did fail his class. Now go I need some time alone.” “But you just said I was pretty smart.” Mickey said getting to her feet. “No I said I heard now get.” He said opening his door. Mickey walked out to lock eyes with the boy again. She wasted no time and walked out of the office she didn’t want to hear one word from him. The hall ways were bare now. Mickey looked down at her class schedule English 4 with Mrs. Phills. Mickey was glad she took two English her freshman year. Next year she wont need another English class there for more free time with Ian. She knew this was a senior class and kind of hoped Ian was in there. She felt more at pace when Ian was around. She found room 223 and held her breath has she opened.
Mickey walked in to be greeted by 16 pairs of eyes. A chill went up her spine. “Yes?” She her a female voice call to her. She turned to face the teachers desk. Mrs. Phills was a very pretty woman in Mickey’s mind. Long brown hair she was tall and thin she had big rimed glasses. “Ahh.” She grinned at Mickey. “Miss Michelle Taylor? Is it?” She asked Mickey.
Mickey could hear whispers. She tried staying out of their minds but could help her self. “Oh wow she looks like a whore.” She read a females mind. “Gezz they let in one back in this school.” Someone else popped in her mind. “Who is she trying to prove?” “What a joke.” “God Ian is dumb.” “Whore” They all rushed in her mind so fast. Mickey couldn’t take all of them at the same time. “Mickey.” She blurted out. “Mickey.” Mrs. Phills smiled a warming smile. “I’ve heard so much great things about you.” “Your thee only one.” Someone said out loud. The class giggled. “Hey!” Mrs. Phills yelled. She looked around the room then back at Mickey and smiled again. “Please set anywhere you want.” She told Mickey. “Yeah you can set outside where you belong.” Another person said. The class giggled again. “Now that’s enough!” Mrs. Phills said getting to her feet. “Everyone gets homework tonight, 1000 word easy on what you did over the summer.” Mrs. Phills ordered. Mickey found a seat in the back of the class room. She hated this. But she was tough, she could beat a boy up in a heart beat. So why was she ready to go find Ian and jet out of here. The class groaned. “But Mickey.” Mrs. Phills said. Mickey zoned out after that. English was easy to Mickey she could do it in her sleep.
The bell kicked Mickey out of her zone and she grabbed her bag and made her way out the class like everyone else. “Oh my god.” She heard a high pitched female voice be hide her say. Mickey want to ignore it and move on but she knew the voice was on her. She stopped and turned around to see the girl. She was started down by Clara. “You know I heard they let you back in but I didn’t think they’d really let you back in.” Mickey was about to open her mouth to say something witty. “I guess even the ugly cant say dead.” Clara said walking off. Ian walked past her on his way over to Mickey. “Oh Ian looking good.” Clara told Ian. Mickey turned around her eyes following Clara down the hall. Her face confused. “That didn’t eve make sense.” She told Ian. He shrugged as he pulled her in to a quick kiss. “God I wanna go home already.” She wined in to his chest. “That bad huh?” Ian asked. Mickey pulled her head back and looked up at Ian. “Its awful. I’ve never been so hated before in my life. But..” Mickey said as she and Ian banged to walk down the hall. “I’ve never been so famous before in my life.” Ian chuckled. He stop and pressed his body against a locker. “So you can stay?” He asked bringing Mickey’s face in to his hands. “I am here aren’t I?” He kissed her again. “I’ve got a bunch of senior classes.” Mickey said pulling away from Ian and pulling out the paper she had shoved in her jean skirt. “Nice boots.” Mickey turned to see Rosy one of the biggest Goths Mickey as even seen in her life walking by eyeing her Doc Martians. “Thanks.” Mickey smiled. “Look, they do like you.” Ian joked taking the paper from her hands. He eyed a few times. “Sweet.” He said shoving the paper back in to Mickey’s jean skirt. “You have P.E with me.” He grinned taking her hand. “Thank god.” Mickey said rolling her eyes.
The Game part 2
Ian reached his hand down in to the cup holder and pull a cigarette out of the box. He lit it and rolled down the window. “Alright.” He said starting up the jeep. Michael’s house was a nice two story house. Brick walls with a nice green lawn. His parents were never home, to busy worrying about their parties and jobs then their son. Michael was a grade A punk with a bad attitude. Mickey got out of the jeep and walked up the path to his front door Ian following her. Mickey pushed her index finger on the door bell. There was a musical tune that played throw out the house. A tune that made Mickey make a face in horror. “That’s an awful door bell ring.” She said out load. More to her self then to Ian. The door opened and Michael stood there in basketball shorts with no shirt. “I so forgot you guys were coming by.” He said rubbing his sleepy eyes. “You were sleeping?” Mickey asked walking in to his house. He nodded and watch Ian come in before shutting the door. “Ian my man?” Michael said, Ian greeted him with a high five. Mickey give Michael an evil glare.
“Alright alright, I’ll be down in a few.” Michael ran up his stairs. Ian looked around. Michaels house was cold and looked like all his rooms belonged in a ’Rooms To Go’ show room. But the kitchen Ian guessed was his mothers prize cause all their money went in to that. Hard wood floors, black marble counter tops. Really cherry stuff. “His parents are really load.” Ian said. “Yeah, its to bad they don’t give a shit about their own son.’’ Mickey said wrapping her arm around Ian. He kissed the top of her head. “What does his parents do anyway?” Ian asked Mickey. “His dad is..” My dad is a lawyer. Best of the best goes to all the big parties. And my mother is a inter decorator. That’s why the place looks so posh.” Michael said joining them in the kitchen. “Are you ready.. Now?” Mickey asked. Michael nodded. He followed her and Ian out of his house. As he locked up he thought Mickey was being a bitch but he had know Mickey for years now and this was Mickey for you. Cold on hot days and hot on cold days. True she didn’t like waiting and they did have something important to do. But he could see something different in their eyes. But when Ian and Mickey looked at each other that look went away and Michael saw pure love. Michael had a good idea about tonight and tonight wasn’t a good night to be out he could tell but he lit his cigarette and join his friends.
Lalaine stepped out of the shower and covered her body with a pink fully towel. She wiped the steamy mirror with the palm of her hand. She looked at her self, saw a change in her in her eyes. But she just told her self ’I am the good twin’. She made her way out in to her cold room. She loved having a bathroom contend to her room. When they moved to this house while Mickey was in Saint Luis she was happy that everyone got there own bathroom. She dried her self off and towel dried her hair. Lalaine dressed in white shorts and a green tank top placing a black long sleeved shirt on top. She ran a hair brush throw her wet hair, letting her hair air dry. Lalaine sat on her window seat and looked out her window. On the other side of her road were trees and at Lalaine’s window you could see over the trees and the sun setting in to the night. She looked down onto the oak tree to see Mickey’s car still not there. Her mother had been home for hours now and she had started another wine bottle and sent her self to bed. It wasn’t even 8 yet. She thought about were Mickey could have been tonight. Picturing her clothes in her head. Doc Martins fishnets with a jean minnie skirt and a black top. With that outfit she could be any where, the movies dinner a party. She picked up her cell phone and texted Mickey. “Where R U?” She hit send. Lalaine was starting to worry about her sister, since she got back from Saint Luis she has been a whole another person. Lalaine looked down at her phone no new texts.
She saw headlights down the road they pulled into her drive way. ‘Cool Gwen is here’. She hopped off her window seat and grabbed her beg heading out her bedroom. “I am leaving” She yelled out to her parents closed door. But it didn’t matter after Mickey’s accident her parents no longer care for what the twins did. It kind of hurt her. She wanted loving parents.
She dashed out the door grabbing her house keys from the coffee table throwing them in the bag.
Music was blasting from Gwen Stone’s BMW red Bug. Lalaine could feel it in her chest. “Hey girl!” Gwen said fleshing her best friend a smile. Gwen had been Lalaine’s best friend for six years now. Gwen was head caption of their schools cheerleading team, tall tanned blonde hair that went down to her shoulders green eyes. She was dress in a blue party dress that showed off her long thin legs, eyes covered in eyeliner and dark eye shadow. “Hey.” Lalaine said getting in. “You ready for a party girlfriend?” Gwen said in a high tone as she backed out of the drive way. Lalaine looked at her house as they drove off. As she watched it getting swolled by the night sky slowly and slowly turning to black she felt an emptiness fill her. Mickey wasn’t home her mom drank her self to sleep her father doesn’t speak to her anymore half the time he’s home. “Yeah I am ready.” She told Gwen. But all she wanted to do was curl in ball with Mickey, like when they were younger and it was raining. And tell her everything was ok.
Gwen slammed on the brakes. “Stop.” She said turning to Lalaine. “Stop this sad acted Lalaine, stop feeling sorry for Michelle.” Gwen bitched at her friend. “Huh?” Lalaine said. She didn’t understand. “That look you’ve been having on your face ever since Michelle came home. Its awful.” Gwen said taking her foot off the brakes. The bug started moving again. Lalaine bite the bottom of her lip. “I am sorry, I never knew you could tell.” “Of curse I can tell.” Gwen pointed to her self. “Hello BEST FRIEND here.” Lalaine giggled “Yeah yeah I know.” She said waving her hand. “Now where’s this party at?” Lalaine asked some make up to her face. Her A game was on. Gwen was right she needed to stop the sad act and have fun for once.
Chapter 2
Mickey’s cell phone flashed new text as it sat safely in the glove compartment of her jeep. It was parked at the edge of the rock cliff. The rock cliff was really a cliff, Mickey’s town didn’t have cliff’s. It was a beach covered in rocks on the edge of the rocks were sand met by the sea. It was a beach un the less and it was a privet one at that. A fire set in the middle of the sea and the rocks. Michael could smell the sea air. Salty and bitter. He relit his cigarette for the third time. The wind and the sea kept blowing it out. Like it was playing a trick on him saying ’Ha ha’. Such a childish game. He looked around and saw many teens. Some he had never seen before. All covered in dark clothes and some with funky hair. But the weirdest thing was they weren’t mingling but staying in groups. Like maybe some would cross over and say hi to some but that was it. He had lost Mickey and Ian in the crowed when he came in. He felt like some how he belonged in this mess but yet organized crowed. “You feel like one huh?” Mickey said coming up be hide him. Michael didn’t jump. Mickey’s voice was the one think that felt like home. One nor thee other could scare each other. “Yeah.” He said taking a drag from his cigarette. “I know I feel it too.” She breathed in the air and let it escape with a smile. “Don’t worry Michael things will soon become clear. But meet people.” She said hitting his shoulder in a playful way. Michael watched her disappeared in to the crowed again She was alone. Ian would never leave her alone in this crowed. Mickey was beyond beautiful. But Michael saw straighter in her leadership. He sat down on the rocks and watched the teens talked and stand their ground.
Mickey felt power in her veins. She felt like she could take anyone out. It had been a year since her visit with the devil and the power inside was growing. She saw Ian talking to a boy with a shaved head. Mickey graceful walked up to Ian and slide her hand in to his. “Mickey this is Scotty. He’s a new leader tonight we welcome his group.” Ian said with out breaking eye contact. Mickey study the boy and then saw his group come in to view. She saw the blonde skinny busty girl move next to Scotty. Her gripped on Ian’s hand tightened. “Mya.” She said and raised an eyebrow. Mickey zoned in on Mya’s mind read a few thoughts. “So what can you do?” Mickey asked Mya in a snarl. “I can see what happens if a plan is made, how it will fall.” She said pound. Mickey looked at her in bitter distasted. “How classy.” Mya looked Mickey up in down ready to pounce. “So what’s yours?” Mya asked Mickey smirked “I can read minds.” Mya nodded. “Well your hot.” Mickey turned and saw Ian’s eyes on a boy who showed up be hide Scotty. “Aden.” The boy spoke eyes glued to Mickey. Aden was tall dark skin, he too had a shaved head. “Pleasure.” Mickey spoke like a god meeting a human from earth. “These guys are Ian and Mickey.” Scotty spoke to his crew. Mickey let go of Ian’s hand. She turned her head. “Michael.” She said in a low whisper.
“So what can you do?” A male voice said to Michael. “What?” Michael said confused. “You heard me.” He was starting to get mean. “I cant do anything. What are you talking about?”
Mickey was right in front of Michael. “Mickey this kid is on something.” Michael said pointing to the kid who had came up to him. She looked at the boy. “Jeff he is with me. Cool it.” Jeff raised an eyebrow. “Mickey you brought a no life here. The lord is not going to like this.” Jeff turned to go tell but he ran in to Ian. “No Jeff.” Ian said to him. By then the whole crowed was looking at them. “Dude back off.” Jeff snarled. He shoved Ian. Ian bounced back a few feet and then took his left fist and hit Jeff in the mouth. Jeff hit the ground. Blood leaking from his lip. “Dude?” He said touching his hand to his lip. “His a no life. He’s not to be here. You know this. He was to be reported to the war lord.” Jeff told Ian. “But Jeff he is with us. His no no life.” Mickey cried out to him. “Mickey you know the rules.” Jacob said to her. Jeff’s leader. “Fucking chill.” Mickey said. She was pissed. People have brought their next new comber to this things all the time and no one said a word or did anything. So why now is this a big deal. Maybe because it was Jeff Coleman who made a big deal out of everything. Now Jacob was getting in on it cause you all ways backed up your team. “God what rules? Your just flipping cause Jeffy boy over here got his lip busted by Ian. He is not a no life.” Mickey said cooling down some. “Now go back to your little groups and shut up.” Mickey took a breath and watched Jeff get up over the ground.
He point at Michael. “Jeffery!” Mickey braked. “Whatever this..” She pointed all around her. “Is bull shit.” She grabbed Michaels hand and pulled him away from the crowed. Ian met up with them at the jeep. “I cant believe that.” Mickey said in anger. “I am going to get that kid.” She said looking off at Jeff. Ian pulled her in to a hug. “Umm what’s going on?” Michael asked.
He had no idea what was going on and it was confusing him. “Get in the jeep.” Mickey said handing Ian the jeep keys. Ian felt a rain drop on his cheek. He got into the drivers side. Watched as Mickey got into the drivers passenger side and light a cigarette. He could feel the anger running threw her. Michael hopped in to the passenger side. “What are we doing?” Michael asked. “Leaving.” Mickey said blowing smoke out the little window. Ian backed out and drove off. Mickey could still read the thoughts of the kids at the circle. Some agreeing with Mickey others cheering Jeff on. But there was on thought that seemed to not fit with the others.
“She’s powerful.” It was a males thought. She couldn’t read war lord thoughts yet she wasn’t that good. And Mickey didn’t fight anyone just shouted and said stuff. ‘How weird’ She thought.
She saw rain drops start to hit her window. “You know where your going?” She asked Ian. He nodded and turned up the radio more. “But I don’t.” Michael said. “Chill. Mike.” Mickey said bitterly. Michael rolled his eyes and lit a cigarette. He knew he should have stayed home tonight. He should have told Mickey he had the flu. That was going around and she would buy it but he loved Mickey and didn’t want to let her down. Ian turned on to a dirt road and killed the engine. Mickey loved how cool Ian played everything out and how he was there for her no matter what. She knew when the summer ends they would be in different classes and he would be getting a job soon and all the time they spend together would soon be over. She didn’t know how to feel about all that. “I’ll wait.” Ian said lighting a cigarette and rolling the window down. “Alright.” Mickey said. She turned to Michael. “Get out we have to talk.” She watched him get out and for the first time in a long long time she saw fear in his eyes.
Michael stood in front of the jeep. The head lights bright and felt like the sun on Michael’s skin. He stuffed his hands in his pockets looking around. Nothing but trees and rocks. Middle of no where. Its what his town was known for. “Mickey stepped in front of him. “Michael I want you to join me.” She said putting her hand out. “Ok? Join you doing what?” “My team.” Mickey swolled hard, for some odd reason she felt bad for doing what she was about ready to do or even ask. But Michael had all ready been exposed to her life so he had to be apart of it. “What? I don’t understand. What do I have to do?” Michael asked. It started to rain a little hard now. “Take my hand and let me kill you.” Michael took a step back. “What?!” He shouted. Mickey rolled her eyes. She was to tired for this. “Ian was so much easier.” Mickey said shaking her hand for him to take it. “That’s because Ian loves you and doesn’t wanna be with out you.” Mickey’s eyes soften. “You don’t love me?” Her hand dropped. “Mickey I love you. I love you so much it hurt to see you leave and those months when you were gone, it sucked. You know who felt it the most? Ian. And I was mad but not at you but at your mother.” Mickey looked off in to darkness. She almost felt the need to cry. “I went by your house a few times. Just to check in. Your dad was a mess, I think he hated your mother for sending you away. Lalaine was heart broken. There were days where I would for get about you and go on living but then I would see Lalaine around town with Gwen and I thought it was you but it wasn’t. And when school ended and summer came and the night you got hit buy a car. I remember it so well cause that’s the night I saw Ian cry for the first time.” Mickey shot a look of disbelief at Michael. “Lalaine was an awful mess and one night I came over to check in on her, your parents had gone up to Saint Luis. She had asked me what it felt like to get drunk and lose your self.” “What?” Mickey said almost breathless. There’s no way that the ending of this story was going to be a good one. “Her eyes were just like yours. Soft bright blue, the way they looked at me deep and full of sadness.”
“Shut up!” Mickey shouted. She couldn’t stand this any more. She didn’t wasn’t to hear the pain she left in her sisters eyes. Michael pulled Mickey close. “I am sorry Mickey she remained me of you soo much of you.” He whispered in her ear. Mickey’s eyes widen and filled with tears. He didn’t. He couldn’t. She thought. Mickey’s right palm faced the ground and she drew in the energy the ground had in to her hand. A dark red orb formed around her hand. A rock sword was placed in to her hand. She gripped it hard and stabbed it threw Michaels chest. “You asshole.” She said threw closed teeth. Michael gasped and then things went dark.
Ian got out of the jeep. He saw Mickey on the ground puking. He looked where Michael was standing. He laid lifeless on the ground. The blood had stopping coming out of his body. Ian went to Mickey’s aid and held her hair. “You ok?” He asked her. “No.” Mickey said spitting the bad taste out of her mouth. “I am drunk.”
Lalaine rested her cheek on the rim of the toilet. She had been throwing up for a good five minutes now. Lalaine didn’t like the drunk feeling she didn’t like losing her self. She felt another up chuck and aimed for the toilet. The taste that filled her mouth was awful. Lalaine was in her bathroom, she felt cold as her bare legs rested on the ground. Mickey wasn’t home yet and she really needed her sister to be here. Lalaine felt the sickness going away. She inched her way over to her shower and turned it on then claimed in and laid there. The water was warm as it hit her body. It was like rain as she watched it come down. Her clothes were getting heavy as they soaked up with water. She let water fill up her mouth as she closed her eyes letting the water take over, washing the night way. “It’s not what you want.” She heard Michaels voice in her head. “It’s awful stuff.” Lalaine eyes filled up with hot salty tears. The night she first started drinking was all so her very first time with a boy. She was in Mickey’s room on her bed, warped up in her sheets. Michael came in. The doors were always unlocked and Mickey’s friends and hers always just walked in. She begged him to show her how to drink. She had heard it makes the pain go away. “No Alien.” He told her. She hated when anyone called her Alien worst nick name ever. But she didn’t mind that night. “Please Michael please.” She found her self begging him her eyes running with tears. He shock his head then let out his hand. They had got evolved with her mother’s wine. “Have you heard?” Lalaine had asked Michael. She was gripped to the bottle. Lalaine turned her head in the shower. She felt more up chuck.
Michael nodded his head. “That’s why I came by. To check on you.” Lalaine didn’t answer him she just looked off. They had made there way back to Mickey’s room. She had rewrapped her self up in Mickey’s sheets. They were in the middle of moving. Lalaine could remember that. She didn’t want anyone to touch Mickey’s room, she had wanted to pack everything up. She couldn’t bring herself to put anything in boxes. “Do you know what its like to lose someone?” Lalaine took a sip of the wine. Michael shock his head. “No.” He whispered. “We grow up in this house. When it rained I would come in here and sleep with her. She called me a chicken the next day when we woke up. But not when it rained she would let me in her bed and tell me it was just a storm.” Lalaine finished off the bottle. Let it drop to the ground with a thud.
Lalaine remembers the next part to well. Her stomach turned. She let out a cry in the shower.
“I cant loser her Michael I love her to much to lose her.” Lalaine began to cry. Michael reached out and took her in his arms and hugged her. Kissed her tear covered cheek for comfort.
Lalaine pulled way and looked up at him and then pulled him close and kissed him. To this day she cant figure out way he didn’t pull way. She has never wanted to know the answer. He wasn’t drunk like she was. Her first kiss a drunk kiss turned in to a gentle passion. Michael was careful with her. He wasn’t rough or pushy. Took his time with everything. Even thought she was drunk it felt nice. It was like a romantic novel and Lalaine felt at one with everything.
Lalaine turned the water off, it was now running cold water. She got out and grabbed a towel. Switched out of her wet clothes and curled in to bed naked. As she drafted she knew to this days she would never tell a soul that Michael Peter Shaw was her first and she would never tell him she enjoyed it and was glad it was with someone she knew her whole life then a random guy at school.
The Jeep ran smoothed on the road. “He’s been out for a while.” Ian said turning to check on Michael. After Mickey had stop throwing up, they put Michael in the back seat of the jeep. Mickey tossed her cigarette out the window and rolled it up. “Its different for everyone. I was in a coma for days.” “But you also got hit by a car. He didn’t.” “He will be fine.”
Ian stopped at a street, if he went right the road would go to Mickey’s but if he went left it would lead him to Michael’s. “Right. Take him to my house.” Mickey said biting her nail. “I need to be there when he wakes up.”
Ian had carried him up to Mickey’s room and set him on Mickey’s bed. “Watch him.” She order Ian as she walked over to Lalaine’s room. She opened it and stuck her in. The moon light showing threw Lalaine’s window filled the room with a soft light. Mickey moved to Lalaine’s bed. She watched Lalaine sleep. Breathing slowly in and slowly out. Fast asleep, her hair still wet. Mickey could tell she was naked. She was wrapped up in her purple sainted sheets. Mickey knew she was going to have a hang over tomorrow. She sneaked in to her parents bathroom and stole a hangover pill from her mom. Placed it on Lalaine’s night stand. She would know what it was when she woke up the next day. “I love you Lalaine Emma Taylor.” Mickey told her sleeping sister. But she knew Lalaine heard her. Their twin conation was getting stronger, tonight when Lalaine got drunk Mickey felt the after math. She even felt the dizziness.
Mickey walked back in to her room. Ian sat on her window seat watching Michael. He looked up at her as she walked in. “Nothing?” She asked. “Nothing.” He looked at her tossing his eyes down her chest. “Um Mick.” He spoke soft and quietly. She looked down and saw that her shirt was covered in Michael’s blood. Even though it was black you could make out the darker spots on her shirt. She lifted the shirt over her head and let it drop on to the ground. Mickey didn’t feel like digging threw her stuff to find a new one. Her clothes were still in boxes. Ian was going to help her one day put everything back in order but they found something better to do.
She looked up at Ian’s shirt. It formed around his broad muscle shoulders. The thought of Ian taking off his shirt, his 6 pack abs resting just under that shirt. Made Mickey a little crazy. But she need a shirt Mickey was just standing there in a skirt fishnets boots and a bar. Ian with grace took his shirt off throwing it to Mickey. His secant filled Mickey’s nose. She took a breath. Mickey put the shirt on, it all most look like a dress on her. She then took her boots off then piled her fishnets off and unzipped her skirt and replaced hem with a pair of shorts she found laying on the ground. Mickey’s room was a little messy. Her walls a red color on one wall a flat screen TV rested on others posters and pictures were hung up. Her black wooden bed laid right next to her bathroom door. Lalaine had fixed her room up to look just like her old room at her old house, on the other side of town. Where an elderly couple on lived. Mickey rested her body in Ian’s lap holding the cropper colored book in her hand. Ready to throw it at Michael when he awoke. She was still pissed at him for sleeping with her sister when she was away. Mickey felt bad for not total telling Michael everything before asking him to join. But the devil will come to him to and tell him what was going on then he would awake and read the book and know what was the real deal and everything would be ok. What felt like hours pasted and Mickey and Ian fall asleep on the window seat. When Mickey awoke in the morning she saw two blood shot eyes looking at her. Michael clamed to have awoken hours ago and just looked at Mickey. His face told of an anger teenage boy. Blood shot eyes tight closed mouth. Mickey was about to speak when Michael opened up his mouth. “You fucking bitch.” Mickey shout to life. “Hey I didn’t sleep with your sad vulnerable sister after getting her drunk.” Mickey said tossing the book at Michael. “Read this.” She said getting up and going to the bathroom. “Oh we are even now.” She said shutting her bathroom door. Mickey looked at her self in the mirror, she saw no monster nor felt one in side her. She had killed to of her friends, shouldn’t see feel something? Mickey washed her face and reapplied her make up. Mickey walked back in to her room to find she was all alone. That knowledge made her scared and sick. Mickey looked out the window to see if Ian’s car was here, it was. She looked at the other cars to see who was here. A car she had not see was there parked in the spot her mother parks. It wasn’t Gwen’s red bug or any other car she knew off. She dashed down still in Ian’s shirt and her shorts. She hit the bottom of the stairs greeted by Ian on the couch shirtless watching cartoons. “Who’s here?” She asked him totally forgetting about Michael. Ian looked up at her he shrugged. “Don’t know. He was here when I woke up.” He. Mickey thought. A boy. “Where is he?” “With your sister.” Lalaine had a boy over. She didn’t tell Mickey she was evolved with anyone but then again they hadn’t talked in forever. They weren’t close anymore. That thought made Mickey a bit sad. She nodded. Mickey dropped next to Ian on the couch and gave him a kiss. His lips full and sweet something that never got old for Mickey. She smirked. “I love you Daniels.” She spoke soft and sweetly. Ian nuzzled his nose with Mickey’s. “I love you too babe.” She loved it when they could kiss early in the morning with no worry of morning breath. “Where’s Michael?” Ian tossed his had to the glass door that lead outside. “How is he?” She asked her boyfriend. “He came down stairs an hour after I got up and stormed out side. I thought he was going to take off, Mick’s he was pissed.” Ian said making eye contacted with Mickey. “I messed up didn’t I?” Mickey asked. She was a little disappointed in her actions about how she brought Michael in. “Yeah, but once you go out there and talk to him he will go back to him self.” Ian said taking Mickey’s face in to his hands. “I know cause I looked in to it.” Ian said kissing Mickey again. Ian’s power was ever help full to her. He could see in to the future if he wanted to know something he could just think about it and he would see the future on it. “Alright I’ll go talk to him.” Mickey began to get off the couch when Ian grabbed her arm. “I’ve got to go back home.” Ian said. Mickey stopped. Ian had been here with her since she got back. She knew this was coming. She dropped her head and looked at Ian. His eyes were so pretty and gave way all of his feelings. “Ok.” Mickey whispered. His eyes told of sadness. “I’ll see you for school and I’ll be around but I gotta start doing things for my dad.” Ian said letting go of Mickey’s arm and running his hand down along her soft skin to her hand and entwisted his fingers with hers. She didn’t wanna let go. She didn’t want to go deal with Michael right now she want more time with Ian. Mickey went down and pulled Ian in to another kiss but this one was long. Leaving Ian something to make him think of her. She pulled away all most breathless. “I know, but I am keeping the shirt.” Ian laughed and smiled. “Alright.” “Beside you look better shirtless.” Mickey said running her fingers down his tan abs. He shock his head. Mickey backed up letting Ian get up. She followed him to the front door. Ian fished his car keys out of his pocket. He turned and hugged her. “My cell phone is all ways on for you.” Mickey nodded “I know this.” Mickey watched Ian drive off. She felt half less now. She shut the front door and for the first time in a long time locked the front door.
Michael had read the copper book maybe three times over. Understanding it more and more as he read. He doesn’t blame Mickey for wanting him to be apart something she was apart of. He would have want Mickey on it too if he was the first to be brought in the game. He knew what side he was on and what he had to do. He belonged to something bigger then anything he ever knew. And he felt like he belonged. “Hey.” He heard Mickey say from be hide him. He was sitting on the ground in the middle of the back yard. “Hey.” He said back. Mickey dropped down beside him. “So you read it?” He nodded. “I get it and I understand everything now.” Michael said closeting the book and handing it back to Mickey. She took it and set it down in her lap.
“So is it true about the one thoo?” Michael asked. Mickey shock her head “No. that is a myth. Something told so people in the game have hope that there is an end to the madness. God and the Devil thought if someone knew there was a person who knew everything about the game the tricks and the secrets, they would go out of their way to find him or her and keep the game interesting.” Michael nodded. He watch Mickey pick grass. Never once making eye contact with him. “Mickey.” He said. She tossed the grass and looked at Michael. “Yes?” “What about the war lords?” “Those are old people, Some one who’s been around forever now. Knows a lot about the game and those are the real leaders. We have circus meets. The thing you were at last night. They help you meet your other team metes and know who’s on your side.” Mickey said still looking at Michael. “And these swords. Why not use guns?” “You think when God and the Devil were on earth they played with guns?” Mickey asked Michael. He shock his head. “The Devil made swords for his leaders and time after time they are passed down from leader to leader but he picks who gets it, Which is why we have those meets. There’s a book the war lord has which tells him who gets what. All and all Michael just kill God’s angles and help win the game. That or kill all the war lords. But they are stronger then anyone or anything I’ve ever heard of.” Mickey tossed her head and looked far in to the yard. “But there’s talk about bad war lords who believe in the one and they will kill anyone who tells them different or stands in there way. They take over other game members to try and find the one.” Mickey told Michael. He looked down at his shoes. “What about that night when you died?” What about it?” Mickey shoot at Michael. He jumped a little. “Oh I just wanted to know about how you got pulled in to this.” Mickey looked at Michael and dropped her eyes. “I don’t know. There was a boy but people say they never saw him but I believe so much that there was.” “Oh.” Michael said jumping to his feet. “Well I am hungry can was finish this talk later?” Mickey laughed “Yeah.” He was back to being his old self like Ian had said would happen. Mickey still on the ground watch Michael head back to the house. “Hey Michael!” She called after him. He turned dead stopped. “Yeah?” Mickey paused for a minute. “Did you hear voices when you died?” She asked. Michael shock his head. “No Mickey I didn’t.” Michael went in side. Mickey warped her arms around her self. “Either did Ian.“ She whispered.
Chapter 3
“What are you doing?” Lalaine asked her boyfriend Brice. He sat at the edge of her bed flipping throw TV chancels. “Trying to find the game.” He reapplied. Brice King had blonde hair that he fluffed up into a mohawk and he was thee most popular guy at her high school. They had been together for awhile now. Since last year right before school let out. Lalaine sat up in her bed. She was wearing cotton short shorts and a light pink tank top. Brown hair in wild curls. Brice had come over early in the morning. He had just got home from football camp and Lalaine was the first to see him. “Yes! Its on.” Brice said turning up the volume. Lalaine rolled her eye’s. “Brice I thought we were going out to eat?” Lalaine wined. Brice just nodded his eyes glued to Lalaine flat screen. She hit her hands on her bed and groaned. She hated jocks when they were watching sports. It was like the went zombie on you. “Fine. I am taking a shower then we are leaving.” She told Brice. “Sure.” He said still zombie.
Lalaine walked in to her bathroom smelling the night before. Gross. She thought. Before she shower she cleaned her bathroom. Dropping to her knees and scrubbing everything. She thought that this should give Brice more time on watching football. After her little cleaning spree she got in the shower letting the warm hot water run down her back. She carefully soaped her body. She saw the pill Mickey had left her on her night stand, which came in handy for her hang over. She washed her hair and got out. Towel drying her body and hair making sure her wild curl’s would come back. Then rewrapped a new towel around her. She walked back in to her room to find Brice in the same spot she last saw him. When she dropped her towel in front of her dresser to put new clothes on he didn’t even turn. She pulled on skinny ripped up jeans and a pale blue T-Shirt. “Alright, Lets go.” She said. Brice didn’t move. Lalaine wasn’t having this in her house. She walked over and turned off the TV. “Brice King.” She snarled. He snapped back. “Oh why did you do that?” He asked. Lalaine raised an eyebrow. “Alright alright.” He said pulling her in to a kiss. “Lets go eat.” He grabbed his car keys over the bed and handed out the door.
Michael sat on the kitchen counter eating left over dinner from last night. Brice and Lalaine were heading out the door when Lalaine forget her cell. “I’ll met you in the car babe.” She said. “Yep.” Brice said walking out the door. Lalaine walked in to the kitchen to grab her cell over the counter. “Brice King.” Michael said. Lalaine eyed him. “So?” She said. “I like him Michael. Maybe you should try a girlfriend once and awhile.” Lalaine said walking out to the front door. “Does he know?” Michael called after her. “No Michael he doesn’t know we slept together.” In fact Lalaine wanted the whole school knowing her first time was with Brice King then Michael Shaw. She even wanted her self knowing this. “Bye Michael.” She said walking out. Michael waved after her. “Peace Alien.”
“What’s that about?” Mickey said walking getting a glass of milk for her self and joining Michael on the counter. “Her boyfriend is gay and I keep telling her he will come out one day. But she wont listen.” Mickey smirked. “Who’s her boyfriend?” She asked. Knowing Lalaine had a boyfriend was shocking and knowing that Michael knew she had one and not Mickey hurt her. “Brice King.” Michael shoved the rest of his food in his mouth. “Shut up.” Mickey said jumped off the counter and looked him in the eye. “Like thee Brice King like Oh My God!” She said like a prep then rolled her eyes “Figured they would be together.” “Hey wanna tell me everything I missed while I was at Saint Luis?” Mickey asked slapping Michael on the knee. “I’ve got a new bong we can check out too. But we gotta hurry before Alien comes back or she will have a cow again.” Michael could tell Mickey had forget about him and her sister and that was ok with him. As long as things were ok between the two of them. If anyone had asked him about sleeping with Lalaine he would say no. But then again no one ever thought that the two of them would mix like that. Lalaine was to good for him and Michael was all wrong for her. Lalaine a high price beauty and Michael a low class punk. “Sure.” He said hopping off the counter. But if the thought ever crossed someone mind that , that was ever possibly he would say he thought it was Mickey cause after all the two did look like.
After taking two hits from the bong, two long hard hits making Michael chock he was in a dazed haven. “That is sweet.” He said pointing to the bong handing it off to Mickey. “Duh.” Mickey said taking the light to the bowl and resting her mouth on the opening. She lit the blow watching the flame take over the green herb. She watched it go from a green color to a burnt brown with hints of orange. She in haled. Deep. He harshness of the herb made her throat burn but dint make her chock like Michael. She never understood why she didn’t chock like Ian Michael or any of the other boys she had smoked with. Mickey had hit the bong just as hard as them and yet nothing. She let the smoke escape her mouth, slowly. Mickey watched it float up in to the air.
“What’s a no life?” Michael asked Mickey who was still watching the smoke float into the air.
“Someone who isn’t like us.” Mickey said blowing the rest of the smoke out of her mouth.
“What happens if they get caught at the meets?” Michael said taking the bong for another hit but then just setting it down. “We kill them bring them in to the game and if the devil doesn’t want them then they die.” Mickey said grabbing the bong off the floor and taking another big hit. She let the smoke out then fall back landing on a pillow that had been on the floor for a few days now. She laughed a little. Michael watched her. She was still in Ian’s shirt which made Michael wonder if Ian was out there shirt less or did her go home and get another shirt? “Shhhhh stop thinking and come here.” Mickey said holding out her hand.” Michael snapped out of his thinking and looked at Mickey’s hand, paused for a moment then grabbed it and joined her on the floor. “Watch.” She whispered in his ear. Her breath sent chills down his spine. He closed his eyes. “No Michael keep them open.” She was still holding on to his hand. Michael opened them and watched. He watched as her curtains closed with out anyone closing them. The room was now dark. “Now throw your hand up in the air and think of stars.” Mickey said coolly.
Michael closed his eyes and thought of stars. The kind he saw when his dad gave a shit about him and took him camping when he was 7. He tossed his hand up in the air then let it fall like a father in the sky. “Open them.” Mickey said letting go of his hand. Michael opened his eyes. The ceiling had stars on it. Michael was looking up at the night sky. “How?” Was all he could make out. He was stunned. “We did it Michael. Our powers let us do this.” Mickey said on laying on her side looking at Michael. They were close way to close. Michael caught him self thinking about what it would be like to kiss Mickey would it be just like kissing Lalaine? “Don’t think that.” Mickey told her stoned friend. “Huh?” He was caught of guard. “I can read your mind Michael. I know everything that goes on inside that mind.” Mickey laid back down again on her side. “I try to stay out of peoples minds as best as I can. There are something’s I just don’t want to know.” Mickey said. Michael just strayed at the stars. It looked like they were outside. Mickey blow a little. Michael felt the night sky wind on his skin. Cool and fresh. Then he felt grass in-between his fingers. He could hear twigs breaking. Crickets off in the distances. Like when he was 7 out camping with his dad. And then some thing he heard that made everything all to real. Like he was at that same camp site with his dad when he was 7. Music. A song his dad would play over and over again to relax him before he went hunting at night. Michael flung him self up. “Stop!” He shouted closing his eyes. He opened them to see he was in Mickey’s room again. Mickey was looking at him. “I am sorry Michael. Your thoughts were so deep and taking over my power. You let the change happen. I…” Her voice trailed off. “That felt so real. Like I was there in that moment of time again.” Michael said hands shaking. His buzz was slowly leaving his body. “It only happens when we are high. That’s all I know.” Mickey said.
She looked in to his eyes to find some kind of relief. He just nodded. Mickey took Michaels face in her hand. “Hey.” She said. His eyes met hers. “Tell me what I missed when I was gone.” Michael felt a burst of light come threw him. “Whoa.” He said eyes still glued to Mickey’s.
“Do you feel that?” His eyes grew wide like he was happy, like a kid on charismas. “That’s your body filling up with new energy.” Mickey said. “Its how our body recovers.” Michael felt like there was lighting shooting threw him. “Its amazing.” He grinned. His smile relaxed Mickey and she dropped her hands for his face. “It’s the weed and the mind trips we take, Something about our happy memories. But that’s the only thing weed does to us.” Mickey said picking up her bong and bring it to her bathroom. Setting it in the tube. She came back in and moved her curtains unlocking her window and opening her window. She looked down Ian’s car wasn’t hide over on the other side of the road in the tress. Mickey felt a hole in her heart. “How come Ian doesn’t know Brice King?” Mickey said still looking out at Ian’s cars spot. “I don’t know.” Michael shrugged. He was still on the new feeling he was going threw. Brice King had showed up after winter break right before Mickey was shipped off. He was instantly made popular. Rumors about his football games made it the couch and he was put on first string. Winning the hearts of most of the rich girls in Mickey’s high school. “He never really cared for football or what the girls were talking about. He was very upset when you left.” Michael said. Mickey knew that. She loved that he wasn’t a jock. She hated Jocks. “How’d Alien and Brice get together?” Mickey said looking at Michael. “That I know. It was big talk on the school grounds. I think even the teachers knew about it.” Michael said looking at his hands. Flipping them over and over. Running his fingers down his arms. “Brice had been with Clara Jones. The two seemed to be in love.” Michael spoke. Clara Jones most popular girl in school. Cherry red hair green eyes. Her face screamed Model. “But little by little he seemed to be more in to Alien then Clara, which made Clara very mad. She almost wanted to ruin Aliens life. But when Brice broke up with her she was more hurt and sad then anger she didn’t do a thing when Brice asked Alien out.” Michael said. He touched his face and hair. “Soo cool.” He whispered to him self. “Hey.” He said jumping up. Mickey looked at he wide eyed. “What?” “I am going to go kill your kitchen.” He said dashing off. She laughed. Michael all ways seemed to be in love with food and the way he all ways wanted to eat made Mickey laugh. It was good to be home.
“So do your parents all ways let Michelle’s friends in when ever?” Brice said taking a right on cherrybloomed street. Brice had never met Michelle. But he knew a great deal of her. Knew of her evil and the way she tried to ruin Lalaine’s family. And knew of the accident. “She’s home.”
Lalaine spoke softly. The car was cool and the radio played on low. Lalaine couldn’t make out the song that was playing. “Oh yeah? How’s that working for you?” Brice asked, He cared for Lalaine very deeply. “Its ok I guess.” Lalaine looked out the window. “You guess?” “I mean I don’t know. She’s not her self. She is smoking and staying out way late. Its like the devil is insider her. Its awful and I hate it.” Lalaine said almost yelled it in the end. She felt tears coming up to her eyes. She pushed them back. Now was not the time to cry. Her boyfriend was back and she planed on being happy for awhile. “Who are we eating with?” She quickly changed the subject. “Well.” Brice said turning on to Maple Apple dr. “I need to go home first get new clothes on and then we are meeting the group up at King’s Table for burgers.” Lalaine nodded. King’s Table his families place. The thing that put her small town on the map. She hated that place smelled of old bread and fake meat. Brice pulled up in to his drive away. “Wait here. I’ll be super fast.” He said kissing her on the check. She nodded. Lalaine watched Brice run inside. Counting the minutes in her head to see if he really was going to be ‘super fast’. She had the smell of a cigarette in her nose. She didn’t understand why she had been smelling that lately.
10 minutes. It took mister super fast ten minutes. Brice was back in his car backing out of his drive way. Fresh shirt on with crisp blue jeans. “Sorry the phone rang my mom wanted me to grab something for the shop.” He said smiling his best smile at Lalaine. “That’s cool.” She said retuning his kiss check with a kiss on the lips. Now the group was made up of Gwen Bobby Smith Taylor Jackson Peter Ruth and Clara. Clara. Lalaine thought she hadn’t talked to her in months. She didn’t even understand how Clara was even in the group. Then it hit her when Brice and her walked in. Peter was dating Clara. Why hadn’t she seen this? Or even heard about it? Gwen had never said anything about this to her. Lalaine wondered why? Bobby Smith a chubby teen. Not every good looking but to a few girls he was hot with a capitol H. Bobby Taylor Peter and Brice had just got back from football camp. Gwen sat in between Bobby and Taylor. Dressed in a white minnie skirt and a red tank top. She was flirting up a storm with Taylor. He was dark tanned with brown eyes and a mess of brown hair. Clara and Peter close together. Like they were in their own love bubble. Peter a pale light skinned boy with shaggy blonde hair. Clara had cut her long red hair to a short pin tight curls. Red lips. Lalaine was envies on how Clara could pull off the red lips. She and Brice seat on the other side of them. She hated looking at Clara. Who could forgive someone for wanting to ruin there high school life? Bobby was stuffing his mouth with a cheese bacon bugger chasseing it down with a coke. Clearly he didn’t wait for anyone else to order. “Eeppp Lalaine you’re here!” Gwen cried. “I’ve been here for a least 3 minutes.” Lalaine said as she watched the waiter come up to their table. “Oh.” Gwen said softly. “Hey Brice, what will it be?” The waiter asked. “Uh two cokes.” He said looping a arm around Lalaine. “Isn’t that bad for you Lalaine?” Clara asked coming out of her little love bubble. Lalaine watch Peter kiss her check then look at Lalaine too. Clara had said Lalaine’s name like a snob. Lalaine want to stab a fork in her eye. “Is what bad for me Clara?” Lalaine asked sweet and nicely. “The coke. All that sugar and crabs.” Clara stuck her tongue a little out and bad a face. “I eat nothing but fruit and salads. I need some fat. Plus coke is amazing.” Lalaine said. Imagining what it would be like the hit a girl. “Oh hell yeah!” Bobby said rising his hand to high five Lalaine. She high fived him. “Yes!” He said like he scored a touch down. Lalaine smiled and shock her head. The boys laughed. “Dude so do we have it this year?” Taylor asked Brice. “Oh yes we do with Peter as our Q.B we cant lose.” Brice said eye pointing to Peter. He gave a look like I know. The waiter retuned with two cokes. “Anything else?” He asked. “Umm naww.” Brice said shoeing him away. “Sweet this year is our year.” Bobby said. Lalaine sipped on her coke. This year would be her junior year and Brice’s senior. She kind of dazed off for a minute. Thinking about life with out Brice. She knew what it was all ready like. She had spent the whole summer knowing this feeling. “You ok?” Brice whispered in her ear. Lalaine smiled snapping back. She touched his cheek with her hand. Lalaine eyes tossed around the room as she met Brice’s eyes. “I am fine.” She said Kissing him. “Dude Lalaine I didn’t know Michelle was back.” Taylor interrupted her and Brice’s kiss. Lalaine pressed her lips together and looked at Taylor. Her hand still on Brice’s cheek. “Yeah she’s been back since the middle of summer.” Lalaine said. Gwen had gone into texting game with someone. She was zoned out. Bobby was reading the gossip over her shoulder. “Oh gawd. Why? I thought she dead.” Clara said in gross tone. Lalaine raised an eyebrow. “What?” Lalaine asked. “Oh I am sorry. I heard she died.” Clara was acting like a snob now. “No she didn’t.” “It would have been best for everyone if she did.” Clara said under her breath. Lalaine heard it thoo. “Excuses me?” Lalaine lashed out. Gwen snapped back to her table and Bobby eye’s glued to the action. Clara look almost scared. “If I recall when Brice broker her cold excuse for a heart. YOU went a little crazy and if I recall people said it would be best if you died!” Lalaine snapped. She could see the tears that were about to rush out of Clara’s green eyes. Clara looked at Brice. He took Lalaine’s hand. “Come Lalaine lets go see what my mom wanted.” Clara looked hurt. For the months that her and Brice were together she thought he loved her. And in her needed of pain would be there. But she could tell now that, that was a lie. “You’re a bitch Lalaine.” Clara said thought closed teeth. Lalaine got up and looked Clara in the eyes. Deep and want to put more fear in Clara then she all ready had. “If you ever bring up my sister again and I hear it. I’ll make sure you have a reason to call me a bitch.” Lalaine said letting Brice take her away from the table.
Gwen watched as Clara fell apart right there in King’s Table. “I didn’t mean to start a cat fight.” Taylor said. Peter got up out of his seat. “Come on Clara I’ll take you home.” She got up watery eyed. Clara clung to Peter like a safety blanket. “Well that’s a good away to kick of the school year.” Bobby said.
Lalaine followed Brice into the back room office. He locked the door. “Are you ok babe?” He asked taking Lalaine’s face in his hands. “I am fine. I just hate when they trash talk her.” She pushed her forehead to his chine. “Its ok.” He said kissing her. Deep and hard. She melted. Lalaine let Brice push her up against the wall. She let him toss his tongue in her mouth. She ran her finger threw his hair. Making it even more of a mess. Brice kissed down her neck. Making Lalaine moan. The next five minutes were like any other five minute. Lalaine let it happen too.
She was glad people knew she had lost it to Brice the star football player, the golden boy.
Brice walked his hands up and down her body. He grunted as he worked his way with Lalaine’s. Becoming one. When it was all said and done, Lalaine tossed back on her shorts and fixed her top. She went to walk out the door to see if Gwen had left or not. Maybe the two of the can go shopping for school. Brice grabbed her arm and pulled her back. He kissed her. He was still shirtless. “Get dressed.” Lalaine said smiling. “Who cares.” Brice said back. “Me. I don’t wanted her parents knowing we just had sex in here.” Lalaine said pushing back a little. “It all ready smells of it.” He said. His gripped oh her tighten. “Brice your hurting me.” Lalaine said eyes scared. Brice dropped his hold. “Sorry.” He said. Lalaine looked at him for a minute. Then unlocked the door and walked out. Bobby and Gwen were still at the table. Talking about something Lalaine didn’t care for. “Gwen.” Lalaine said. Gwen looked up at Lalaine. “Hey girl.” “Lets go shopping.” Lalaine said. She looked up to see Brice looking at her from the back room still shirtless. It gave her chills. Gwen’s face light up. “Oh lets!” She put her hands together and clapped. She got up leaving Bobby med way in a sentence. “Hey!” Bobby said. Gwen looped her arm around Lalaine then turned to face Bobby. “We are not changing the uniforms and less is not better its slutier.” Gwen told Bobby. He dropped his mouth. Shocked. As Gwen and Lalaine were walking out Bobby stood up. “Gwyneth Stone you will come back to me one day and you will like my idea.” “Bye Bobby.” Gwen said laughing.
They drove out of King’s Table parking lot. “You ok girl? Clara look like she got stabbed in the face when she walked out.” Gwen asked turning down the main street road to get to the mall. Or the little plaza they called a mall. Only had maybe 10 stores in it. A JcPennys and little here and there stores nothing huge or anything. If the teens wanted a big mall with high priced clothes the had to drive 2 hours for that. No one really want to rive that far out unless you were bored and had really nothing better to do. “I am fine. I just don’t understand why everyone hates her so much.” “Who? Michelle? Or Clara?” “Michelle.” Lalaine said softly. “Well Lalaine have you seen her lately? She is a bitch and a wired Goth looking girl. Like she just starts stuff with people with her smart mouth.” Gwen said making a left hand turn. “Yeah but no one says anything about Ian or…” “Daniels?” Gwen interrupted. Lalaine nodded “Yeah.” “Because he is hot.” This was true if Brice wasn’t around and Ian wasn’t so anitpoplur he would be thee hottest boy in school. “That boy is thee only Goth punk whatever kid Id ever let touch me.” “And Michael no one says anything to him.” Lalaine cried. “Who?” “Shaw. Michael Shaw. You had him in your math class last year. You know the one class you bombed.” Gwen parked her bug up close to the front doors of the mall. “Oh. That class sucked.” Gwen said taking over her seatbelt. “Lalaine face it. Your sister is an outcast. No one likes her but her own kind.” Lalaine went and grabbed for the door handle. She hated this feeling but it had been with her for soo long that she could now take it and make it feel painless. She was really starting to hate her sister.
Chapter 4
Ian drove up to his house. A small three bedroom brick house. One of the first house made in this town. He had hate the house ever since he was a boy. It creaked and made sounds that would give him nightmares. His mom was a baker, all the little café’s in the town had her pies in cakes in them. Ian’s mom was the most gifted baker he had ever known. She was getting old now and could no longer read the small letters on things. But she could remember how to make a pie she no longer needed her eyes to see things. His dad fixed cars. When Mickey was way his dad fixed up Mickey’s jeep. They didn’t make much but the got by. Ian was happy they adored Mickey. They loved her like she was one of their own. When ever Ian and Mickey fought his mom would call her up and smooth things over and invite her over for pie and make Ian say sorry. They didn’t care that he had spent nights over there. They knew Ian loved her and she loved him. Ian got out of his car and walked up the stone path to his front door. Dug in to his pocket for his house key. Just has he was about to open it the door swung open. Ian jumped back a little. He looked at the person who was walking out the front door. The blonde hair girl eyed him up and down. Then looking at his chest then his abs. “Wow.” She said. Ian knew he was still shirtless and didn’t think it would be a big deal since he was going home. “Mya?” He spoke.
Mya from the met was in his house.. What could she be doing he wondered. “What are you doing here?” He asked her. Mya stepped out on the welcome met the Daniels had placed out in front of the door. It was about 5 years old now and needed to be replaced when they had the money. She was dressed in shorts and a plain blue tee-shirt. “Your brother.” She said. “I am his teacher.” Ian looked down and noticed her tope bag. Heavy with books. “But Luke is a special needs kid.” Mya nodded. “I know. I teach English as like a college help thing.” She spoke. Ian noticed here green eyes. They sparkled in the sun they way Mickey’s blue eyes did in the sun.
“Luke is 8 thoo.” Ian said. “I know this Ian.” She laughed. Her laugh was sweet and beautiful. Ian felt a pull to her. He nodded. “Cool.” Ian said heading to his front door. “Well good seeing you Mya.” He said going inside closing the door. “Yeah you too Ian.” She said to the shut door.
Ian watched her get in to her old pick up truck from his bedroom window. “I see you met Mya.” He heard is mom say. He turned around to see his mom in his door away. “Yeah.” He said putting a white shirt on. “She’s sweet.” She said drying a dish. “Luke likes her.” She smiled a motherly smile. “That’s good for Luke.” Ian said making his way out to the living room. “He’s been asking about you Ian.” Ian dead stopped. “Where is he?” He asked. No one knew Ian had a brother let alone a special needs brother. The only person who did was Mickey and she loved Luke. Mickey would come over sometimes just to see Luke. They would play with his toys and she would read to him, take him out side and play games with him. Ian loved Luke but they knew they would pick on Luke and make Luke miserable so he chose to never say he had a brother. “In his room. Doing homework. He’s been asking for Mickey too.” His mom said going back to the kitchen. Ian opened Luke’s door to his him on the floor writing way on a piece of paper that was placed on a hard cover book. “Hey buddy.” Ian spoke. Luke looked up and gave Ian a deer in head lights look then smiled big and wide. “IAN!” He shouted then dropped his panicle and jumped up to give Ian a huge. Ian picked him up in his arms and hugged him tightly. “Hey miss me?” Ian asked. “Ohh yes I did.” Luke spoke. He had a slips when he spoke. Ian put him back on the ground. “What are we doing?” He asked. Luke ran over to his book and grabbed his paper. Ian kneeled down. “Look Ian words!” Luke said with joy. His paper had simple words on it that Luke copied. Cat dog car hat and then a few harder ones, house mouse Kitchen and then his name Luke. It looked like a three year old was writing this. “Look Ian my name Lukes!” He said. “Ahh very good bubby.” Luke smiled and dropped his paper he watched it float to the ground. Like just looked at it. He didn’t move to get it. “Pick it up Luke.” Ian said. Ian put his hand on his back and like that Luke began to scream. Ian looked at him “Luke.” He said Luke got louder. Ian’s mom came in. “What happened?” She asked picking Luke up in her arms. Cooing him. “I don’t know. I just touched his back and asked him to pick up his paper.” Ian said. “He’s never done t
Death by the Rivers End
Dominic stood there for a minute. He looked into the lady's eyes. "Sure." He said at last. He felt the rain start to fade. But people still had their umbrellas up. "Me and My friends met April in summer school. She was bubbly and full of life." He spoke out to the crowed. "That she was." He heard Brookelle say. Jessica nudged her. "She became talk of the school by the start of school. Everyone loved her." Dominic finished and looked at who he assumed to be Aprils mother. Her eyes seemed a bit cheery now. A small grin seemed to all most show. "And she had no enemies." He added. The lady lunched at him and warped her arms around him. "Oh thank you dear boy. This would have meant a lot to her." He lightly hugged her back. "I know." He whispered to her. The minster smiled and finished tossing dirt on the casket. People began to hug one another. Teenagers and their parents made their over to April's mom to give best wishes. Brookelle wanted to book it back to the car and go home snuggle up in her bed and sleep for a good day or two. She grabbed hold of Jessica's hand. "Lets go. This place gives me the creeps." She said looking around. Jessica nodded. She to wanted out of this place. "Dom." She whispered. Dominic turned to met Jessica's face. "Lets go." "Alright I'll get the others." He said handing her the car keys. He watched as Jessica and Brookelle made their way back to the car. He turned to his right to try and find Travis and Fox. He saw Fox chatting up some girl that went to their school. Dominic rolled his eyes.
"Ohh girl. I know I am hurt by this too." Fox said to a small blonde. She was in tears and her make up was caked on to her face. Under all that make up was a hot cheerleader. "Its just so awful." She sniffed. "I was just starting to get to know her." She blow her nose in a tissue. "Its ok." Fox said about to warp his arms around her. Dominic grabbed him by his shirt neck. "Come on Romero. Time to leave." Dominic said. Fox rolled his eyes. "Your all ways doing that to me." He wined. "Now is not the time. Help me find Travis." Fox fixed his shirt and dusted himself. They found him standing in front of a blown up picture of April. Her school picture. Curly chest nut brown hair blue eyes. Her smile was perfect, white teeth. She had rosy checks and a clean white shirt, Fox and Dominic joined his said. "She doesn't look like a girl you just dead." Travis spoke in a soft tone. "Travis." Dominic started. "We know you've been threw a lot and I know we asked something no one should be asked to do." Fox told his friend. "But we are sorry."Dominic said putting a hand on his shoulder for comfort. Dominic help his friend walk away from that picture. Helped him walk away from a place he wished he hadn't brought him to. The three of them made their to the car before anyone had a chance to talk to them.
Brookelle was the first to spot the detective. He was standing next to the black SUV. Dressed in a brown peacoet. His hair was comed back. He light a cigarette and blow out the smoke as he watched Brookelle come up to him. "May I help you?" She said with a biter tone. "Yes you may." He grinned a cordite smile. Brookelle stood in front of him. She placed her hands on her hips. Rised her eye brows. "Well what is it?" By then Jessica had join her said. "Who are you?" Jessica asked. "I am Detective King." He reached in to his pocket and pulled out a white square card. Handed it to Jessica. She took it and read it carefully. "That says nothing on why your here standing next to my car." Brookelle said venom cover her words. Detective King took another drag of his cigarette. "I am looking in to the murderer of April Smith." Jessica looked up from the card Brookelle took a step back eyes still on King. "She wasn't murdered." Jessica said iceiy. "Ahh But I have believe she was." King spoke finishing up his cigarette. "What proffe do you have?" Travis asked joing the girls. He looked over Jessica's shoulders and read the card in her hand. Dominic and Fox stood by Brookelle. "She killed her self." Fox said. "Everyone knows this." Dominic added. "What proffe do you have?" Travis asked again. King tossed the bud to the ground and put out the lit bud with his foot. "Seems that is true. But a happy girl doesnt just kill her self." He said walking way. Brookelle shook her head. "She wasnt happy. She was sick." Brookelle called out to him. King turned around. He just nodded. "Good day." He said and began to walk again. "That man knows something." Travis said studying King as he walked away.
The Game
Mickey Taylor watched the dark figures dash off in to the thick trees. She turn her head over her shoulder, double checking to see if someone was following her. No one was. She was pressed up against a white brick wall. The wall belonged to Saint Luis Bordering School for the troubled. Mickey’s parents thought it would be best to send her there after getting one to many phone calls home from her high school. She saw one more dark figure go into the trees. Mickey felt the mid night heat on her forehead. Now was not the time to chicken out, Besides beyond those trees was a party. Mickey was told this earlier that night at dinner in the mess hall. Tess Moore had walked up to her while she was in line waiting to get her dish of trash food. Mickey would rather eat real trash instead of the food she was about to receive. But what could one do? Real food was not aloud on school grounds and the only way to get real food was to go to one of these “parties”. This would be Mickey’s first party, and she was hopping it would be what al the talk said it would be about. Tess walked up to her. Her blonde hair waving in the air conditioned room. She stepped in front of Mickey in line. No tray in hand. “Shhh Don’t say anything.” Tess said with out turning around to face Mickey. If Mickey had made Tess cutting her in line a big deal, one of the teachers would pull Tess out and make her sit by them while she ate. “What is it?” Mickey said in a harsh tone. Mickey had been there for 6 months and everyday Tess and her clique had made it hell for her. “Tonight by the dead road mid night. You should be there.” With out Mickey saying a word back Tess slipped out of line. The dead road, Mickey had only heard it once or twice in class room talk. No one could really talked that much about it, if a teacher found out about and report it. They would stop anyone from going down there. They would stop the fun. Mickey knew that it was past the trees. Dead road was an old highway no one used anymore, no one had ever heard of a single car driving down that road. Next to Saint Luis cross the dead road past more trees another school stood. But this was a high school. Scott High School, and over there the boys loved to party with the Saint Luis girls. Saint Luis was after all an all girls school. The boys would come down at mid night down the dead road with food and beer. Mickey heard that if Tess Moore asked you to come down to the Dead Road, it was good news.
Mickey built up some speed, she was ready to make a run for it to the trees. She took off with out a sound, She all was knew was good on her feet. Mickey became a dark figure as she entered the trees. A far she could see a dim light and hear a faint music sound. As she got closer she heard chatter, giggles. Girl giggles. Mickey could tell some of her school buds were all ready drunk. Then she saw movement, Tess and Ava Bell dancing in front of an old Ford pick up truck, the radio blasting with today’s pop music. They had on minnie skirts and pink tank tops. Mickey made her way out of the trees and stepped out in front of the dancing blondes. Tess saw her come out and jumped to her side. “OOhhh Mickey dear, You made it.” Tess smiled drunkly and clung to Mickey’s arm. “Yeahh.” Mickey said looking at Tess. “LOOK MICKEY MADE IT!” Tess shouted throwing up her arm, tossing some beer out of her cup. Some cheers where made. Mickey looked around and saw four girls she knew from school. Jackie Smalls Chloe Campbell Susie Perez and Tiffany Reed. All friends with Tess. Three boys were there. Ave was dancing around one. He was tall dark hair manly figure. Another was over by the keg they brought getting Tiffany and Chloe refills of beer. He was slim not as tall as the one over by Ava. From what Mickey could make out he had blonde hair and looked like a total creep. His grin he tossed up to Tiffany as he hand her, her drink gave Mickey gooses bumps. The other boy was up against the truck bed sipping on a cup of beer. The night was hiding his looks from Mickey, But she could tell he was looking at her. Tess dragged Mickey over to the keg. “Oh Mickey dear I am so glad you showed. I know I’ve been a bitch to you for soooooooooooo (She slurred on the so part.) long now and I am sorry. I’ve invited you out here tonight to make up for it. Tess said in a drunk tone. The creepy boy gave Tess a red plastic cup filled to the top with foamy gold beer. Tess smiled at the boy. “So nice.” She said to him. “Mickey this is?” She looked at him, waiting for him to say his name. “Jake.” He said not a trace of drunk in his voice. Clearly the boys come out here to get the girls drunk and then hope they get lucky. “Jakey.” Tess said and hand Mickey the beer. Mickey knew Tess was beyond drunk. She couldn’t even stand up right. Mickey took the cup and smiled “Thanks Tess.” She said. A 30H!3 song started up threw the speakers of the truck. “Oh I Loves this song.” Tess said letting go of Mickey and stumbling off to join Ava in dancing in front of the truck. Susie stepped beside Mickey. “She is pretty trashed.” Susie said to Mickey. Mickey nodded and sipped on her beer. The taste brought back memories that made Mickey home sick. “Tiffany told me this is how she all was is at these parties.” Susie went on. Mickey could care less about Tess’s wild side. “I guess the schools bitch is really a nice drunk.” Susie chuckled. Jackie rushed up to Susie and grabbed her by the arm. “Come on Suss lets get down.” Jackie giggled. Mickey could tell she to was drunk. An hour past and Mickey felt a buzz from the beer she had consumed. Two more boys showed up, But Mickey didn’t care for them. She was focused on the boy who was still up against the bed of the trunk. She walked past Tess who was face sucking with Jake, which wasn’t the pretties thing she had ever seen. “Why do you keep looking at me?” Mickey said poking the boy in the chest with her index finger. He looked down at her finger. Mickey could see very dim looks. He had tossed blonde hair and light eyes. He smiled. He had nice teeth. “Cause your beautiful.” He smiled. Mickey rolled her eyes. She knew she was. Her dark think long brown hair fell down her back. She was slim but short for a 16 year old. If the sun hit her eyes just right they would sparkle blue. But right now she could feel her eyes being green dark green. She pressed her full lips together and glared for a moment at the boy. “I wont sleep with you, I am not that drunk.” He laughed, a husky laugh. Deep and smelled of beer. “I don’t want to sleep with you.” Mickey felt a little hurt, But she wouldn’t let him see that. “Oh Jakey!” She heard Tess squeal. “Then why are you here?” Mickey asked. It never crossed her mind to get his name. “I am hunting.” He said. Mickey made a face, “Hunting?” He nodded. “For?” She snarled. She didn’t mean for it to come out like that but he was starting to creep her out but at the same time his darkness was drawing her in. Her guard was up. “For someone to join my group.” “Your not a vampire?!” Mickey said getting a tiny freaked out now. He laughed again “Oh no those are not real.” He said. He moved from the bed wall turning to Mickey’s side, which made her face him. Her back to the dead road now. “What are..” Mickey began to say. He put a finger to her lips closing them, making her stop talking. She quickly looked around ’doesn’t anyone see this?’ She wonder. Jackie and Ava had gone back to the school back to there cozy beds. Which to Mickey didn’t sound half bad now, but this boys gaze was hard to break. Something about his eyes was hard to make Mickey pull away. She heard sounds coming from the truck bed and saw Susie and Tall boy (which his name was Drake) making it.
Tess and Jake were slow drunk dancing to old music. The two boys that had showed up (Rick and Steve) where trashed trying to get Chloe to go back to there car. No they couldn’t see. “Mickey.” He said moving forward. Mickey took a step back. “What?” She spoke. Her buzz gone now. “I want to make you an offer.” He step closer. Mickey looked down at his hand, It was going down in to the pocket of his jeans. Oh god. Mickey thought. She stepped back and tripped on a rock laying next to the Dead Road. She laid on her back. The boy put out his hand for her to take, but quickly turned his head to see the on coming head lights. Mickey turned her head and saw them too. She tried getting up. But it was too late.
The scream that came from Mickey made everyone look. Tess let out a scream grabbing on to Jake. Susie and Drake sat up fast. Susie shirt was gone, she felt the wind breath on her bear shoulders. She placed a hand on her mouth eyes wide with horror. Chloe turned to Rick and puked on him and began to cry. No one had ever seen someone get ran over before. The couple in the car had stopped a few miles up. The driver which was a male got out and rushed to Mickey’s side. Mickey’s eyes were wide open her hair a wild mess. Blood was simmered on her chine and bottom lip. “Oh my god, I am sorry I didn’t see her.” The man spoke in a panic. “The guy at the gas station said no one was on this road. I thought it would be ok to speed.” The girl got out of the car. “Drew what happened?” She called out to her lover. “Call 911!” He yelled back at her.
Anyone who saw Mickey that night could say that she was dead. Anyone. And anyone that was there that night saw no boy up against the truck. Mickey saw the stars fading. She felt the night grow cold. In her ears she heard. “Mickey, Mickey come join us Mickey.” Then everything got black. Later Tess told the cops Mickey was drunk and dancing madly in to the Dead Road and tripped on a rock, no one saw the car coming. No one saw the boy that wanted to take Mickey Taylor’s life.
Chapter 1
Lalaine Taylor’s bright blue eyes popped open. Her tan nose sniffed the air a few times. She could feel her cozy bed she was laying in get very uncomfortable. She sat upright in bed. Sniffed the air again. ‘She cant be’ Lalaine thought. She threw her goose feather filled blank off her. She followed the smell out her bedroom down the hall to her sisters bedroom door. “Michelle Anna Taylor!” She said banging on the door with her left fist. Lalaine stood there for a minute, waiting for her sisters door to open. The white wooden door soon open a minute later. A cloud of smoke puffed out the door away. Ian Daniels stood there a tad dazed. Lalaine study him for a second before pushing past him to get to her sister. Ian was in Lalaine eyes and any other young teen girl a “heart breaker“. Shaggy wavy brown hair to his shoulders, that he tossed back with his hands so it wouldn’t get in his light bluish green eyes. Broad shoulders with a every musicale body which he kept tone through out the years Lalaine has know him. Lalaine saw her sister sitting on the window seat, the curtains were tossed to the side and the window was wide open. The window out looked the Taylor’s front lawn and drive away. A big oak tree stood in the middle of the lawn under its branches Mickey’s Jeep rested. In the drive away Lalaine’s Nissan Skyline was up to the garage door making room for her parents cars to get in. Mickey’s back was pressed up against the window frame her right leg up on the window seat her left daggled. “Nice to see you to Lalaine.” Ian said coolly shutting the door. “What are you doing?” Lalaine cut in to her sister. Mickey was looking outside, the joint rested in between her fingers. Mickey rolled her head facing Lalaine. “Alien.” Mickey smiled. Lalaine waved her hand in front of her face, the smell of weed was over coming her senses. “Don’t call me Alien. What are you doing smoking that in the house?” She picked the joint out of Mickey’s fingers and chucked it out the window. Lalaine stared her twin sister down. Mickey’s eyes weren’t blood shot she didn’t looked dazed like Ian had looked. “Why are you tripping?” Mickey asked her. “What if mom and dad come home and smell this and they send you back to Saint Luis?” Lalaine cried to her sister. Mickey lend in a little making better eye contacted. “Saint Luis wont take me back and mom and dad wont ship me off any more. Remember?” Lalaine looked down at the ground. How could she forget that night. She was out with friends just walked out of a cinema. She was laughing when the pain hit her. She felt it in her head, like someone busted her head open with a bat. Lalaine let out a scream and hit the ground, she woke in a hospital bad with the news of her sisters accident. “Its been a year Alien and they haven’t sent me back and Ive been rising hell since I came back.” Mickey said giving away a little smile. Like she was proud of this. Lalaine heard Ian laugh. She walked out of her sisters room she was stocked. The feeling of not even knowing her sister filled her. Lalaine walked down stairs she felt her body grow cold. She warped her arms around her and looked down as she took each step. No wonder she was cold, she had on short sofie shorts and a thin tank top. She heard her cell ring in the kitchen and raced to it. “Hello?”
Mickey stared out the window. She knew Lalaine want to know more about what happen when she came home. They where so close when they were younger. They knew everything about each other. But things were different now and now wasn’t the time for closeness. “She will be fine Mickey.” Ian said coming up be hide her placing his heads on her shoulders and kissing the back of her head. Ian had been with her for years now. Since the book was brought to her and had entered a new world and way before Saint Luis. Four years now. Mickey was sold on them being soul mates. Never had they want to be with anyone else as much as they wanted to be with each other. Now that she had brought him in to the game with her there bound was greater then ever. Mickey nodded. “We have a circle tonight, Best if we get Michael.“ Mickey said getting off her window seat. She was walking to the door when Ian pulled her back to him and he met her lips with his and kissed her. Mickey melted. She couldn’t be mad or uneasy for so long after Ian kissed her. He knew this. He pulled way, “Come.” He smiled holding her hand has he lead them out of her room. “I’ll drive.” Mickey’s dad met them at the door as they were going out. “Going out?” He asked his daughter “Yes sir.” Mickey said stopping in the door way ready for a small chat with her dad. “Good afternoon Mr. Taylor.” Ian said stopping beside Mickey. “Ah yes Ian how are you?” “Good sir you?” Mickey had all was like the politeness Ian had with adults. One of the main reasons why her parents loved him so much. He was refreshing to have around her mother told her after her first meting Ian. When Mickey was at Saint Luis he would all was come around the house so it wouldn’t make her parents forget to bring Mickey room soon. That there was still people who loved her and wanted her home and not at some bordering school.
“Doing well, Thanks.” He made his way in to the house, he was middle age man tall thin. His face looked like he was fading and his hair told everyone he was old and didn’t have that much life in him. Mickey and Ian started walking “Your mother will be home soon and would want to have a family dinner.” He spoke. Mickey stopped and watched Ian had to her Jeep. He got in to the driver side and started up the car. Mickey felt the wind pick up and the air grow thick.
She could remember a time when she loved family dinners all four of them sitting around a table laughing talking sharing events from they’re days. Mickey all so remembers when that all chanced. Most people would say it was Ian’s fault. But it wasn’t, others would say it was her friends but that wasn’t it either. The reason for her bad attitude and the reason for her getting sent off to Saint Luis is something she will never let her mother forget. “Daddy no I wont be here to eat.” She said over her shoulder and walked to the jeep. Mickey felt a sickness in the bottom of her stomach as he hopped in to the passenger side. She hated letting her father down like that. He loved the dinners to, as much as she did. But she no longer wanted to be around her mother. The thought of her made Mickey angry.
Two years ago Mickey came home from Ian’s a little early. Her father and Lalaine were out doing a dinner and movie night. She remember this day ever so clearly. Mickey opened her house door setting her keys on the table next to the door. “I am home!” She yelled hoping up the stairs. She was making her way to her room when she hared a noise coming from her mothers room. The door was creaked. Light was showed throw it. Mickey slowly walked to her door. The sounds were getting louder as she was getting closer, her mother was moaning. Mickey peaked in. Her eye widen with horror she gasped. Her mother was warped up in another mans arms. Her naked body pressed up against his. Hate grew in the pit of Mickey’s stomach. How could her mother do this to her and Lalaine and worst of all her father. Didn’t she love us or him? Mickey tip toed slowly back to her room and never spoke a word to anyone about what she saw for a while. She remembers Ian knowing there was something wrong with her but she didn’t tell him. How could she? A week before she was sent off Ian broke her silence and she spilled her guts to him. “She hates us Ian she doesn’t love us.” Mickey told him. “What are you talking about?” Ian asked. They were sitting up on his roof top. Mickey loved sitting up there, his roof top gave a great view of her town. Mickey started to cry. Ian held her face in his hands. Her blue eyes turning from her light bright blue eyes to dark green. “Its ok Mickey you can tell me.” He felt her hot tears run down his hands. “I saw them together.” She whisper. “Who?” How could she begin to explain. She was 15 and Ian was 16. A 15 year old should not have to share this kind of stuff nor see it. “My…” She started. “Mickey I love you.” Ian told her. Hearing Ian say that all ways made it easier for her to talk to him. “My mother is cheating on us.” Mickey said it just like that. Not my mother is cheating on my father but us. Being with another man was cheating on the whole family. If she was breaking her fathers heart she was breaking hers as well. Ian pulled her in to a tight hug. Mickey clung to him. Her tears soaking threw his shirt. “Shhhhh.” He soothed her. He kissed her shoulder. “Its ok I am here and I love you.. I love you Michelle Anna Taylor.”
When her mother told her she was going away that night in Mickey’s bedroom. Mickey shut the door and looked her mother in the eye. “I know, I know what your doing and wont get raid of me.” Mickey’s mother smoothened her dress. “Michelle I know, and I wont let you mess up my family. I wont let you mess it all up, wont have it.” Her family this isn’t her family. Mickey’s eyes began to tear up. “I hate you.” She snarled at her mother. “I hate you and I will never forgive you.” Mickey’s mother nodded her head and tried to take Mickey’s face in her hands, but Mickey pushed her way. “Get out.” Mickey told her mother. “Alright.” Her mother told her leaving her room.
“Are you ok?” Ian asked placing his hand on hers. She held it. “No.” Ian pulled his hand away from hers and backed out, then placed his hand back with hers. “But I’ll be fine.” She smiled at him.
Michael Shaw was Mickey’s best friend since 5th grade when he moved to her home town.
They met because he stole her milk at lunch time, the lunch lady had forgotten to give him one.
Mickey cried and he got double nap time when the rest would go out and play. Michael was skinny and tall he had a mess of brown hair and dirt brown eyes. You could all was see him at the skate park , Mickey told him one day he was going to be pro. But that day would never come now. Ian stopped the jeep a few blocks from Michaels house. “Are you sure about this?” Ian asked killing the engine. Mickey drew in a breath. “Yes I need a team and I would never leave my best friend out.” Ian nodded. Ian recalled when Mickey came to him with the game.
When she came back from Saint Luis from the hospital, Ian could see change in her eyes. In the way she spoke and carried her self. She was more cocky more out spoken she had no fear in her blood. A different Mickey stood in front of her.
“What has gotten in to?” He had asked her a few days later. They were sitting in her room watching TV when Mickey had gotten roughly play full with him. “Nothing.” She told him rolling her eyes and pulled out a cropper colored book from under her bed. She had it to him. Ian looked it over. “What’s this?” Mickey sat cross legged on the edge of her bed. “This is going to sound crazy.” She began. “But when I was in the hospital the devil came to me.” Ian rolled his eyes and tossed the book on the floor. “Bull Shit Mickey.” He rubbed his face with his hands. “Ian have I ever lied to you?” Ian thought. “No.” Mickey raised an eye brow. “Then why would I lie now?” Ian knew she was making a good point. But the devil? He shrugged his shoulders. “Go on.” He told Mickey. “He came to me with that book.” She said pointing at the cropper book on the ground. “He told me of a game, where he wanted me to be leader. He told me he would give me great power and a hole new pair of eyes to see the world throw. All I had to do was take his hand and die.” Mickey reached down and scoop the book up. “I cant explain more to you, and.” She looked deep into Ian’s eyes. “I want you to join me Ian, I cant do this on my own.’’ Ian reached for the book but Mickey pulled the book back. “No, you must read it after you take my hand and die too.” She held out her hand and looked deeper in to Ian’s eyes.
Ian thought Mickey was crazy. But the book was in front of her and she had never lied to him not once so maybe this was all true, and maybe he had came to her when she was in the hospital. Mickey assured him he would come back to live just with different eyes, ones that would see the world as she saw them and then he could better understand her. “I love you Ian Lee Daniels please trust me.” Mickey said softly. When Mickey left for 6 months Ian promised him self he won’t let her go far ever aging, and when he heard that she all most died he knew he didn’t want to lose her. He took a breath and then took her hand. She held it tight so he wouldn’t move. Mickey pulled out a gun she had been hiding under her covers and amid it a Ian. She watched his eyes grow with fear he gasped. Mickey pulled the trigger. “BANG!” That was the last thing Ian heard right before he died.
Ian’s eyes opened and he was standing an a dark room. “Ian.” A voice said from be hide him. He spun around. His head was spinning “Who’s there?” He asked. Two reddish glowing eyes paired at him. “I am very pleased to have you in my court. I feel great things will come from you.” The deep harsh voice spoke. “Who are you?” Ian felt a breeze go past him. He spun around again. He looked up to see a smoky figure in front of him. “I am sorry for my rudeness.” He grain. His teeth were rotten. His face was worn. He were a robe. But Ian kept looking at the red eyes that seem to draw him in and cause a hurt feeling inside him. “I am the devil and your about to join my court in a nice game of ‘man hunt’” The Devil put his hand out for Ian to shake it. Ian touched his palm and felt a hot burn start on his fingers. He pulled away. The devil laughed a rich deep laugh. “I’ll be waiting to hear great things from you Ian.” “What’s the game?” Ian asked.
“Simple my son. Kill all the angels.” Ian awoke to see Mickey looking down at him her bright blue eyes brought comfort to me. He was laying on her bed, he left his head up and looked around. Blood was on the bed and the wall. His blood. “How do you feel?” Mickey asked him. Ian looked down at his fingers. They were burned. It wasn’t a dream Mickey wasn’t laying, He had died. Mickey handed the book.
Ian looked down at his fingers the scars were still there. It never faded. It was there to remind Ian of that night. The night everything changed.
Death at the Rivers End
Chapter One
The hallways were empty, you couldn't even hear the echos of what was there. The classrooms stood still. The chairs were ice cold of leak of body heat on it. The lockers kept books locked away from people who did not know their codes. Jessica Cherry stood in the hallway steering down it. Tears running down her cheeks. Her black dress dripped in the rain that had met her outside. She shock her head, causing her messy strawberry blonde hair to go everywhere. She didn't like this school much. Her and her friend had tried their best to stay way from it. Ditching class playing sick and even just plane not going. It all seemed swell for her and her group, in till they all met their fate in summer school. And the day they met April Smith. And their secret came out.
Jessica's cell phone beeped from in side her bag. She didn't need to check it she knew who it was. She began to move, walking slowly down the hallway. Jessica could tell she was the only one in the building. The way her shoes hit the ground made loud clapping noises and all the classroom doors where open. Her pale skin grow with goosebumps. Her phone beeped again. "I am going I am going." She whispered to the phone. It only seemed like a short while before she came cross her locker. She spun the dial put in her locker numbers and then spun it till it clicked. Inside her locker her Math book History book and English book stood. Dust laid over them like a blanket. Jessica dropped her bag to the ground and opened. Her cell phone welcomed her inside with a lit up face. 2 text messages flashed cross the screen. Jessica ran her fingers threw her hair. She pushed her phone aside and digged deep inside. She pulled out a blue notebook and a yellow text book 'Math and Reading. A two in one' ran cross it in red. Jessica want to pass summer school. She wasn't dumb she just didn't like high school. Her phone beeped again when she slammed the locker shut. She groaned.
When she walked out side it was still raining. She made her way to the black SUV that was curbed park next to the school. Jessica opened the passenger door and slide in. The tan leather seat was all ready into med heating when she sat down. The door slammed shut but no clicking of a buckle seat happened. "Its about time. Cherry what took you so long?" Brookelle Louis snapped from the back seat. Jessica turned and cocked an eye brow at her best friend. No one could have guessed that the two where best friends. Brookelle was short and thin, tan with long curly brown hair and light green eyes. Jessica was the opposite of her, she was tall thin with curves. Long legs cherry red lips and dark drown eyes. "I am sorry that my locker is on the other side of the school." Jessica snarled and turned back around. "I just want to get this over with." Brookelle said. Jessica looked over at the driver. Dominic Salter looked back at her. His soft warm golden brown eyes met hers. His tossed brown hair shine with a greasy tent. He had charming good looks. They all did. All five of them. Fox Hunter and Travis Brooks were the other two boys in the group. Jessica loved them all very much she wonted be anything without them. "Yeah can we go?" Fox wined from the back. His red hair was curled at the ends thanks to the rain. His light freckled skin was flushed. He didn't want to do this either just like the rest of the group. "Yeah. Lets do this." Jessica said eyes still on Dominic. He nodded then started up the SUV and drove back on to the main road.
"Dom?" Brookelle spoke after ten minutes of silence. "Hmm?" He said eyes still on the road. "Can you turn on the radio?" Brookelle was the only one in the middle seat. Her back was pressed up against the door. Her black dress was mini and skin tight. The only black dress she owned. It didn't help her dull down her looks. Her hair curled nicely thanks to the weather. Her lips plumed and glossed nicely eyes thicken with eye liner.. She couldn't help how she looked or even how she did her make up. Even if she didn't wear make up she would still be hot. But she felt ugly. She looked down at her feet. A pair of flats looked back at her. Ugly old black flats. She moved her left back and forth. Yeah it was real. "Yeah sorry." Dominic switched on the radio.
Bruno Mars's Grenade came slipping threw the car's speakers. "Thanks." Brookelle said. She tossed her head to the side to see Travis looking out the window. He hadn't said a word since they got in the car. His blonde mop they called hair stuck to the window. His light blue eyes paired out the window and watched the trees go by.
Brookelle felt like opening her mouth and talk to him. But she knew that was pointless. He wouldn't speak to her. He wouldn't speak to anyone. It was like he was dumb found it with words.
The SUV pulled up to a muggy dirt area. Gravestones covered the land. Dominic followed the road till the car was met by other cars then Dominic found a spot to park and killed the engine. Travis unstuck his head and looked around. Brookelle was the first to get out. She turned around and looked Fox and Travis in the eyes. "Now try to look sad." She said to them. "We are sad." Jessica said shutting her door. "Right." Brookelle said nodding. Dominic saw the group of kids his age dressed in black crowed around a hole in the ground. He assumed the hole had a casket in it. Cream color. He swooped his arm over Jessica's shoulders. Trying his best to look like he didn't stead out. Trying to make sure none of his friends stood out. When they got close eyes were tossed on to them like they were deer and the eyes were lasers from a hunters gun. Their faces were covered in tears and running make up. Dominic look on to his friend's face's. Jessica looked like she had been crying for days. And she had. Travis looked he had seen death. Fox's head was shot down at the ground his hands were stuffed in his pockets. He was kicking dirt. Dominic looked down at Brookelle who was crying. Which was rare to see her cry. Brookelle didn't care for any one but the group. They all joined the crying faces. The minister had finished saying his good words and had now started to toss dirt on to the casket. He looked up and spotted Dominic. "Dominic Salter?" He asked. Dominic nodded. The minster stopped tossing dirt. "April said so much about you." A old tried looking women said. She had stepped out from the crowed. Her hand was glued to her face with a tissue in it. Dominic looked at her. "Well yes we were some what friends." Dominic said. His hands dropped from Jessica's shoulders and to his side. "Please say something."
